Broken Bones
Nonpoint Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm not the person that you think I am
The life I want to lead me to approval
From someone who will never understand
You're forgetting my broken bones
Forgetting my marrow
Hard to stand alone
In this ground
Just because you've lived a little longer
Doesn't mean your will is any stronger
You forgot that all these thoughts remember
Every time you say I need to change
You're forgetting my broken bones
Forgetting my marrow
Hard to stand alone
When this feels like all
In this ground
In this ground
Such decisions that we make, decisions that we make
To stand alone
To stand alone
Such decisions that we make, decisions that we make
To stand alone
To stand alone
Forgetting my broken bones
Forgetting my marrow
Hard to stand alone
When this feels like all
In this ground
In this ground
Such decisions that we make, decisions that we make
To stand alone
These lyrics from Nonpoint's song "Broken Bones" speak to a person who is determined to live their own life, to be their own person, and not to succumb to the control or influence of others. The singer suggests that he has come a long way without the approval or understanding of anyone else, and that he is not the person people might expect him to be. The singer craves the freedom to live the life he wants, but people around him, including those who have been around for longer, like elders or parental figures, try to control him, and he feels like they are not willing to understand who he is.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the singer's hurt and the difficulty of standing alone. In his quest for freedom and independence, he's been hurt, and his bones are broken. This damage has reached deep into his core, his marrow. Despite this, he's standing alone in his quest, and it feels like all he's got. The singer reminds us that living your life your way demands tough decisions, decisions that often force you to stand alone.
