On The Way
North-T Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You always say I only call you after midnight
You're who I want, end of the day (Oh)
Those pics you sent me, down there speedin' through these red lights
Don't get too comfortable, babe (Oh)
I'm on my way
I'm sorry I made you wait
I hope that you stay awake
Do you love me anyway?
Look, I know I'm wrong
But I'm too good to be alone
I promise it won't be long
Do you love me anyway?
Oh, I know it's late
But I'm coming over 'til 2, 3, 4 in the mornin' so it counts as tonight
I know it's late
But I'm coming over 'til 2, 3, 4 in the mornin' so it counts as tonight
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I'm coming over 'til 2, 3, 4 in the mornin' so it counts as tonight
Don't get undressed yet, baby, I want to undress you
Hold up girl, I'm right down the street (Oh)
Only a couple minutes 'til I come and check you
Then I'm gon' put you half asleep (Oh)
Hm, I'm on my way
I'm sorry I made you wait
I hope that you stay awake
Do you love me anyway?
Look, I know I'm wrong
But I'm too good to be alone
I promise it won't be long
Do you love me anyway?
Oh, I know it's late
But I'm coming over 'til 2, 3, 4 in the mornin' so it counts as tonight
I know it's late
But I'm coming over 'til 2, 3, 4 in the mornin' so it counts as tonight
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I'm coming over 'til 2, 3, 4 in the mornin' so it counts as tonight
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I'm coming over 'til 2, 3, 4 in the mornin' so it counts as tonight
Oh
Hm, I'm on my way
I'm sorry I made you wait
I hope that you stay awake
Do you love me anyway? (Yeah; Oh)
I know I'm wrong
But I'm too good to be alone
I promise it won't be long
Do you love me anyway? (Yeah, oh, oh)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of North-T's "On The Way" are about wanting someone to open up and reveal their true selves, including their flaws and pain, instead of pretending to be okay on the surface. The singer asks the other person not to say goodbye or hello, as those traditional social pleasantries don't address the deeper issues that they want to explore together. The singer promises that they will not judge or reject the other person, and they even invite them to touch their own scars, suggesting a mutual vulnerability and trust. The chorus emphasizes that love requires more than just surface-level niceties, and that pain and hurt are necessary components of true intimacy. The bridge includes a spiritual reference to a "broken and contrite heart," implying that even in this brokenness, there can be acceptance and love.

Sixty years ago today, Johnny left us. A drunk driver (who served no time in prison) took the life of an incredible singer and songwriter. North To Alaska had entered the Billboard charts 47 days earlier on September 19th, 1960.
I shall NEVER forget Johnny Horton!!

We gotta sink the Bismark! Hearing that song in the 70’s inspired me to read any/all things WWII. He must have been one hellova teacher.

That line "With the northern lights a-runnin' wild in the land of the Midnight Sun" gives me chills every time

@markberryhill2715

That's some serious poetry ain't it?

@ATOMICROBOT667

A whole movie plays through my head with that line… and when it it ends with “ The Year Was 1901” GOOSEBUMPS !

Also doesn't make any sense. Alaska is called "the land of the midnight sun" because parts of it get 24 hours of daylight in the summer. In the winter they get all day darkness. If the sun is out, you can't see the lights at all.

Jonny Horton was one of the best recording artist of the era , he didn't have the popularity of Elvis Presley but his recordings will stand the test of time . He was a very talented artist with his own sound and originality no one will ever be able to recreate him he has left his mark that no one can recreate . Johnny died way to soon by a drunk semi driver . People please remember him and his music. Johnny Rest in peace .
