The band was formed by Andreas Kubat and Sebastian Bohn (DJ Boon) in 1997.
Their debut album "Small Chamber Works" was released in 2001 on their own label "1St. Decade Records".
Later, Larry Lowe (Guitars) joined the band and brought some rock influences. Since then they sound similar to bands like The Faint, Fischerspooner and Death in Vegas, with both rock and electro influences.
In 2004, Northern Lite released their sequel album called "Reach the Sun".
In the same year, Larry left Northern Lite again and Sascha Littek took over his work.
One year later the band won the German Dance Award as "Best Indie/Electronic Artist" and they released their third album "Temper". The album "Unisex" followed in 2006.
At the German "Bundesvision Song Contest 2007" Northern Lite represented their home state Thuringia, performing the song Enemy with the group "Chapeau Claque".
Later the same year, Sascha Littek left the band, too. He was replaced with Valerian Herdam. A fifth album "Super Black" followed in 2008.
Their latest album, "Letters & Signs - Part One", was released on the 18th September, 2009, followed by Letters & Signs - Part Two in 2010.

Something
Northern Lite Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Thats what my life is like
Learn to wait for the nevercoming
Until you take the final strike
Tried to find it in her eyes
Cannot tell- is it my something
Or just a pack of lies?
Sometimes I get a little 'something'
Out of my radio
And when I try to hold it tight
I start to let it go
The lyrics to Northern Lite's "Something" tell the story of a person who feels like they're missing something in their life. They've been searching for this intangible thing for a long time, waiting for it to come to them. But as the years have gone by, they've realized that it might never come. They've looked for it in the eyes of a lover, but they're not sure if what they found there is the real thing or just a lie.
The song then shifts to talk about how sometimes they get a little "something" out of their radio. This could be referring to music, or perhaps something more spiritual or ethereal. They try to hold onto this feeling, but it slips away from them just as quickly.
Overall, the lyrics are about the struggle we all have to find meaning and purpose in our lives. It's a universal theme that Northern Lite captures well in their music.
