Fade
Northlane Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When nothing could be done
To salvage what was lost
The chosen one
A victim of passion
He feels the hate rise up
A war that can′t be won
The mourning son
Survives through disaster
The soul that suffered

All that's left behind
Is a memory that fades
Like a rope around your neck
Binds you to a resting place
And the price that I have paid
When I watched you pass away
Is the everlasting pain
And a memory that fades away

When all he had was gone
A place we once belonged
The chosen one finds an existence
Second coming life
Daylight pushes on
The mourning son
No longer a victim

All that′s left behind
Is a memory that fades
Like a rope around your neck
Binds you to a resting place
And the price that I have paid
When I watched you pass away
Is the everlasting pain
And a memory that fades away

The soul that suffered sleeps tonight
In the ashes of his demons

Demons

Daylight holds no salvation
From this labyrinth of desolation
The fiery hells in his mind
Will burn to the ground in time

All that's left behind
Is a memory that fades
Like a rope around your neck
Binds you to a resting place
And the price that I have paid
When I watched you pass away
Is the everlasting pain
And a memory that fades away

The chosen one
The morning son

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the Northlane song "Fade" tells a story of loss, grief, and eventually, finding a new beginning. It starts with someone realizing that nothing can be done to salvage what was lost, and they are now a victim of passion. The hate rises up, and they feel like they are in a war that can't be won. The mourning son survives through disaster, and the soul that suffered is left behind with a memory that fades away.

The chosen one, who is the subject of the lyrics, has lost everything and is trying to find an existence. They find a new life, and daylight pushes them forward. The mourning son is no longer a victim, and they are now stronger than before. The lyrics continue to describe how the memory of what was lost never completely fades away, and the price of losing it is an everlasting pain that will always be there. However, the chosen one finds a new beginning and can sleep at night despite their demons.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the theme of loss and grief. It talks about how all that's left behind is a memory that fades away, like a rope around your neck that binds you to a resting place. The price paid for watching someone pass away is the everlasting pain of the memory that fades away.

Overall, "Fade" is a song that tells a story of loss, grief, and new beginnings. It acknowledges the pain of losing something or someone important, but emphasizes the strength that can come from moving forward.

This song reminds me of how I felt when my mom passed away last year. And honestly sometimes, I still feel these sorts of emotions. I'm really thankful for this song, really good album Northlane (:

Dwėsk

half of this album is about a certain kind of loss but they're all from such different perspectives and are sonically so different too. Good stuff.

Waiting on the fans to say they miss old Northlane...this is truly brilliant.

Blueskythinking

Preston Justice could say the same for you bud you're typing too.

People can miss the old, but for the people saying this sucks then people should probably look themselves in the mirror. Because they probably aren't as awesome as they think. I am talking about people in other comments. The vocalist isn't the best, but he's good. The screaming is average in my opinion, but I rather the instruments come to life and be the light more than the screams in my opinion. It's not my favorite album ever, but I like it.

berkah89 you can miss whatever you want, I'll stand by my statement haha.
