Midnight
Novatone Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Midnight happens everyday
And I blame it all on you
We try so hard to walk away
Leaving you is hard to do
I can count it on my hands
The reasons why I'm not your man

It could be something like the weight of the sun
It could be nothing more than: you're not the one
I take my chances just like everyone
I take my chances

Almost nothin' makes my day
But when I lie around with you
You always seem to find the shade
With every light you walk into

It could be something like the weight of the sun
It could be nothing more than: you're not the one
I take my chances just like everyone
I take my chances
Oh

Midnight (4x)

Overall Meaning

In Novatone's song "Midnight," the lyrics talk about the lingering feeling of a past love that seems to haunt the singer. The opening line, "Midnight happens every day, and I blame it all on you," suggests that the singer thinks of this past love every night, which doesn't allow them to move on from the relationship. The song conveys a sense of frustration and senselessness towards the way the singer feels, continuously blaming the past love for the way they feel.

The chorus of the song states, "It could be something like the weight of the sun, it could be nothing more than you're not the one, I take my chances just like everyone." These lines indicate the pain and the confusion the singer is feeling. They cannot seem to pinpoint an exact reason for their feelings but still accept it as part of life.

The line, "Almost nothing makes my day, but when I lie around with you, you always seem to find the shade, with every light you walk into," suggests that the singer found solace in their relationship with their past love, and in their absence, everything else seems bland and underwhelming. The use of the metaphor, "find the shade," implies that this past love is the only relief from the harshness of their reality.

Overall, "Midnight" is a song that talks about the difficulty of finding closure, even when one tries to move on from a past lover.

Admittedly one of my fave bands. Great shows. Great tunes and Ty is beast! Buy it from wax orchard / novatone (2005) one story of many - I worked at Guitar center downtown Seattle and the guitarist Rob was the asst mgr I believe so that was sweet and one show at the high dive I was out front smoked with ty and watched him pull down the bill of his hat a bit and go stealthily through the crowd. No one noticed and I remember thinking wow he's like a celeb and who everyone came to see.."
