In 2004, shortly after O-Town split, Jacob Underwood began making music with his band Jacob's Loc. Their music style is a mix of rock, country and a little bit of funk.
Ashley Parker Angel stepped back into the spotlight in 2006 with a show on MTV (There and Back) that detailed his life after O-Town and his 2006 solo album, "Soundtrack to Your Life".
In 2011, O-Town reformed, though without Ashley, and continued on as a 4-piece. Skydive, their official comeback single, was released on 27 July 2014, and was shortly followed by the release of the band's third studio album, Lines & Circles.
Cut The Cord

And i'd hate to finally commit
That I won't push it anymore
If you don't want it
I've realised that I was never enough for you
Now I'm waving my white flag of surrender
You know I was yours without a doubt
But I know that wasn't enough
When they let you go
It's time to cut the cord
It's time to move along
Get up again
When they move along
It's time to leave the road
Find out some other goal
And cut the cord
Now you know it's time to
Give yourself some respect
Make something of yourself
I've realised that I was never enough for you
Now I'm waving my white flag of surrender
You know how I'd rather it turn out
You know I was yours without a doubt
But I know that wasn't enough
When they let you go
It's time to cut the cord
It's time to move along
Get up again
When they move along
It's time to leave the road
Find out some other goal
And cut the cord
Now you know it's time to
Give yourself some respect
Make something of yourself
When they let you go
It's time to cut the cord
It's time to find
Your own way of existing
When they cut the cord
It's time to move along
It's time to find a road for you to run
When they let you go
It's time to cut the cord
It's time to move along
And let things end
And get up again
The lyrics of "Cut The Cord" by O-Town convey a sense of realization, acceptance, and empowerment in the face of a relationship that has run its course. The singer reflects on their own feelings of inadequacy and surrender, acknowledging that they were never enough for the other person. This admission is difficult but necessary for their own growth and self-awareness. By waving the white flag of surrender, they are letting go of the illusion that they could have changed the outcome of the relationship and are choosing to move forward.
The repeated refrain of "When they let you go, It's time to cut the cord" reinforces the idea that when someone no longer wants to be in a relationship with you, it is important to release yourself from the emotional ties and move on. This action is presented as a form of self-respect and self-preservation. The imagery of cutting the cord symbolizes breaking free from what once held you back and finding the strength to start anew.
The lyrics also emphasize the importance of finding one's own path and setting new goals after a relationship ends. By leaving behind the old road and seeking out a different direction, the singer encourages the listener to discover their own potential and make something of themselves. This message of personal growth and resilience is a recurring theme throughout the song.
The final verse urges the listener to embrace change, let go of the past, and embrace the future with courage and determination. Moving along, finding a new road, and allowing things to end are all essential steps in the process of healing and moving forward. The lyrics ultimately serve as a powerful reminder of the value of self-discovery, self-empowerment, and the importance of letting go in order to embrace new beginnings.
