Respect
O.C.BLUES Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[O.C.]
Blood pulsatin, adrenaline flowin
Full moon at night, on the stoop gettin right
I'll never forget the day before
Son told me to tuck my ice in cause niggaz was triflin
We did what he said but the habit in me
was to show it off, I still let my chain swang free
Not really thinkin 'bout a set up, or even gettin wet up
that summer night from such advice
So I proceed to parlay, like I do in BK
But this wasn't home, and niggaz shoulda known
to stay on point, niggaz shoulda been on point
And the price paid was lookin down the barrel of a joint
We was dead meat, and them niggaz was wolves
But they didn't want our flesh, dem niggaz wanted the jewels
It happened so quick, no time to get afraid
First instinct was to run like a slave
Me and Schoolly Boy was boxed in
My man Hugh's a few feet away, with a pound at his face
I looked, son in his eyes cause I know how he is
While the other faggot nigga had the gun in my ribs
I thought - fuck, shit 'bout to get buckwild
Popped off my chain, threw it with a Coke and a smile
Thinkin leave already, but them niggaz wasn't done
They went in our pockets for change, numbers and bubblegum
Now - how low can a lowlife get, askin what size are my kicks?
Like I'ma say 8 and shit
To myself I was sayin I'ma MURDER this kid
But thank the Lord they didn't peel back my wig
The jux wasn't longer than a minute to Mush
Then them niggaz tried to tell us, do the Carl Lewis
No backshots buddy, I began to walk backwards
And bust my ass, it all happened so fast
He thought I was shot, starin at me in shock
Turned around, them niggaz was gone, vanished up the block
There was no escapin what not
With toasters in your face, maintain and respect the drop

Overall Meaning

The song "Respect" by O.C. is a story about a night where O.C. and his crew were robbed. The lyrics are very descriptive and provide a vivid image of the events that took place. O.C. paints a picture of a summer night, with a full moon, and the adrenaline pumping through his veins. He remembers how, the day before, someone warned him to tuck his jewelry in because people were being robbed, but he didn't listen. As they were parlaying on the stoop, they were confronted by a group of robbers who pointed a gun at them and demanded their jewelry and belongings. O.C. and his crew were helpless and complied with the demands of the robbers, who went through their pockets and took whatever they could find. Despite the fear and terror he felt, O.C. manages to maintain his composure.

The song is a cautionary tale about the importance of being aware of your surroundings, especially when you're in an unfamiliar environment. It also highlights the fact that even when you think you're safe, you're never truly safe. It's important to maintain a level of respect and awareness in order to avoid dangerous situations. The lyrics are delivered with intensity and urgency, as O.C. vividly describes the events of that fateful night.

Member it like it was yesterday back in "92", G Rap was kicking this jam on the stage at Mahorns in Cherry hill Nj..I was standing right there on stage just a few feet a way watching the crowd go bananas!..it was sick. He killed it! I'm glad to have experienced that once in a life time moment right there watching a Giant Hip Hop Legend in action. Took it all for granted at the time. You know how it is when you're a teenager, you're thinking it's all going to last forever. You don't realize what you had until it's all gone. It was truly a timeless honor to have inhaled that moment seeing Kool G Rap set fire to the stage.

#Mahorns‼️ I used to fly up once a month to Philly just to go party there‼️#WhatATimeToBeAlive
