Ronque e Toque
O Grito Lyrics

Cultivo meus prazeres na terra
O céu já não me satisfaz
Bebendo cachaça, mastigo meu charque
Transformo meu sol num luar
Respiro mensagens do vento
Perdi meu amor lá no norte
No norte de Minas Gerais
Num campo de lírios, enterraram Narciso
Já tá na hora de acordar
Meu forte corpo feito de pedra
Pedra banhada em luz
Na caverna dos sonhos, esquecidos
Pregaram nosso fogo na cruz
O sal da terra é doce e amargo
Ambíguo calor de Exu
A felicidade, nas curvas da vida
começa e termina no cru
Sempre com meus bons camaradas
Sorrindo e sentindo o que há
Somos todos unidos, iguais e famintos
Um dia o livro há de acabar
The lyrics of the song "Ronque e Toque" by O Grito depict a deep introspection and personal journey of the singer. The opening lines, "Cultivo meus prazeres na terra, O céu já não me satisfaz" suggest a departure from traditional spiritual or heavenly fulfillment towards finding satisfaction in earthly pleasures. The mention of drinking cachaça and chewing on charque signifies a connection with rustic and simple pleasures, transforming the harshness of daylight into the softness of moonlight.
The following verse, "Respiro mensagens do vento, Sentindo Iansã festejar" conveys a sense of spiritual connection with nature, particularly with the Afro-Brazilian deity Iansã, associated with the winds and storms. The reference to smoking as the last remaining pleasure in a realm of ideas hints at seeking solace in simple pleasures while navigating life's complexities, often seeking refuge in the familiarity of bars.
The mention of losing love in the north of Minas Gerais and the burial of Narcissus in a field of lilies symbolize themes of loss and awakening. The imagery of a strong body made of stone bathed in light, with dreams forgotten in caves, alludes to resilience amidst forgotten aspirations and the weight of past struggles, perhaps symbolized by the crucifixion of their fire.
The juxtaposition of the sweetness and bitterness of the earth's salt, the enigmatic warmth of Exu, and the cyclical nature of happiness along life's twists and turns encapsulate the dualities and contradictions inherent in existence. The closing lines highlighting camaraderie, unity, and the inevitability of life's end suggest acceptance and solidarity in the face of life's uncertainties and transience. Overall, the lyrics of "Ronque e Toque" by O Grito paint a vivid portrait of a personal journey through earthly pleasures, spiritual connections, loss, resilience, and the shared experiences of life's journey.
