Sunday Morning Call
Oasis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here's another Sunday morning call
You hear your head-a-banging on the door
Slip your shoes on and then out you crawl
Into a day that couldn't give you more
But what for?

And in your head do you feel
What you're not supposed to feel
And you take what you want
But you don't get it for free
You need more time
'Cause your thoughts and words won't last forever more
And I'm not sure if it'll ever work out right
But it's OK
It's all right

When you're lonely and you start to hear
The little voices in your head at night
You will only sniff away the tears
So you can dance until the morning light
At what price?

And in your head do you feel
What you're not supposed to feel
And you take what you want
But you won't get it for free
You need more time
'Cause your thoughts and words won't last forever more
And I'm not sure if it'll ever work out right
It's OK
It's all right

And in your head do you feel
What you're not supposed to feel
And you take what you want
But you won't get hope for free
You need more time
Because your thoughts and words won't last forever more
And I'm not sure if it'll ever, ever, ever work out right

If it'll ever, ever, ever work out right
Will it ever, ever, ever work out right?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Oasis's song "Sunday Morning Call" depict the struggle and confusion that one experiences in their life's journey, and how it could lead to a sense of loneliness, self-doubt, and desperation. The opening lines "Here's another Sunday, morning call, you hear your head a bangin' on the door" create an image of a person waking up after another night of partying and hanging out with friends. However, the following lines "But what for? And in your head, do you feel what you're not supposed to feel?" shows a person questioning their purpose and direction in life, and the feeling of emptiness that they find themselves in.

The second verse of the song speaks of the little voices that one hears in their head, which could be interpreted as the nagging doubts and insecurities that one faces in a crucial juncture in their life. The lines "You need more time, 'cause your thoughts and words won't last forever more" highlight the temporary nature of one's thoughts and emotions, and the need for more time to sort out things in life. The song concludes with the lines "And in your head, do you feel what you're not supposed to feel?" and "Will it ever, ever, ever work out right?" which encapsulates the uncertainty and confusion that one faces in finding their place in the world.

Overall, "Sunday Morning Call" is a poignant song that captures the fleeting nature of human existence, and the search for meaning and purpose in life.

amen.

my demon is addiction.

It's not active at the moment, but the savagery of my addiction led me to isolation, loneliness, and a hollow existence.

Some people just bear heavier burdens, but my spirit tells me that's because the universe sees who can bear the heavier loads.

I didn't know I was strong until I had to be, and the strength I found inside me stunned me.

I hope you found yours my friend.

aim for the stars my friend.
if you fall short, you'll still be illuminated by moonlight.

I live in Bradford, a little 30 minute drive from Manchester, and I always thought oasis were a very northern English niche band.

The messages from all around the world on here is eye opening.

We may live different lives, in different cultures, with different environments, but we are all human, and we all feel those I herenrkt human things like sadness, loss, grief...

We aren't all that different..

I love you all.
each of your messages, whether to express your struggles, your joys, your situations and your dreams, each message reminds this still suffering addict that we are never alone. just isolated.

@missingno88

Can’t understand how Noel hates it lol although in an acoustic setting it’s much better

@joebloggs5679

95% of the best Oasis tracks were released in the 90s. This is one of the few handful of good Songs Noel wrote for Oasis this century. And he says its shit. No Noel, Heathen Chemistry and Dont Believe the Truth is where all your shit tracks lie.
