Breaking Ties

I feel it to the bone
Oh when you say you know
I feel I am not alone
And even though I may return
To empty places on my own
Where I remember everything
And you provide a parachute
When I am falling like a stone
And I remember there's a life
That I have not lived yet
You and I, truth and lies
I've been fooling myself too long
You and I, breaking ties
How could we be so right and so wrong?
I hear the words you say
Your mouth against my skin
My world just falls away
You light me from within
And even though I may return
To empty places on my own
Where I remember everything
You want me to forget
And you provide a parachute
When I am falling like a stone
And I remember there's a life
That I have not lived yet
You and I, truth and lies
I've been fooling myself too long
You and I, breaking ties
How could we be so right and so wrong?
Truth and lies
Breaking ties
You and I, truth and lies
I've been fooling myself too long
You and I, breaking ties
How could we be so right and so wrong?
The lyrics of OceanLab/Above & Beyond's song Breaking Ties discuss a complicated relationship in which the singer is torn between their desire for connection and their fear of being hurt. The opening lines convey a sense of isolation and vulnerability, as the singer feels the cold wind cut through them and longs for the comfort of another's understanding. However, they are also haunted by memories of past pain and doubt whether this relationship is truly safe.
Despite these reservations, the singer is drawn to their partner's ability to provide a sense of security ("parachute") when they are in danger of "falling like a stone". This contrast between fear and comfort is echoed in the chorus, where "truth and lies" and "breaking ties" suggest that the relationship is both a source of truth and deception, intimacy and separation. The final line of the chorus, "How could we be so right and so wrong?", encapsulates the singer's confusion and sense of being stuck between conflicting emotions.
The second verse emphasizes the physical aspect of the relationship, with the singer describing the sensation of their partner's words against their skin and feeling as though their world is falling away. This moment of intense connection is juxtaposed with the ongoing struggle to let go of past pain and embrace new opportunities.
Overall, Breaking Ties is a poignant exploration of the complexities of love and fear, connection and separation, and the ways in which we can be both attracted to and afraid of the same person.

I feel I am not alone

Although I might go back
To empty places on my own
To solitary locations without anyone around
Where I remember everything
In places where all memories come back to me
You want me to forget
You want me to forget them
And you provide a parachute

I wish people listened this this kind of music in 2023 I live in West Virginia, and not many people at all listen to this heavenly stuff, I have one really good friends who love this kind of music and we grew up together he was like 4 years older but man the world needs more great music like this.
