Running Up That Hill
Ofln - Chromatics Lyrics

It doesn't hurt me
But you want to feel how it feels?
But you want to know, that it didn't hurt me?
But you wanna hear about the deal I'm making
You
You and me
You and me, won't be unhappy
And if I only could
Make a deal with God
Get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building

Do you want to hurt me
See how deep the bullet lies
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder
There's a thunder in our hearts

Why is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You
You and me
You and me, won't be unhappy

And if I only could
Make a deal with God
And get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building

If I only could
Make a deal with God
I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
No poblems

You
You and me
You and me, won't be unhappy

C'mon baby, c'mon c'mon darling
Let me steal this moment from you now
C'mon angel, c'mon c'mon, darling
Let's exchange the experience

And if I only could
Make a deal with God
I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building, ooh

And if I only could

C'mon baby, c'mon c'mon darling
Let me steal this moment from you now
C'mon angel, c'mon c'mon, darling
Let's exchange the experience

C'mon baby, c'mon c'mon darling
Let me steal this moment from you now
C'mon angel, c'mon c'mon, darling
Let's exchange the experience

Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill

Be running up that building
With no problems

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Chromatics' song "Running Up That Hill" reflect a deeply emotional and introspective exploration of relationships, communication, and the desire for understanding and connection. The song opens with a sense of detachment and a willingness to negotiate, with the repetition of the phrase "It doesn't hurt me" suggesting a desire to move beyond pain or conflict. The questioning of whether the other person wants to feel and understand these emotions sets the stage for a dialogue about empathy and reciprocity in relationships.

The idea of making a deal with God to swap places speaks to a longing for a fresh perspective or a new beginning in the relationship. The imagery of running up that road, hill, and building symbolizes the uphill struggle and challenges that come with striving for resolution and understanding. This could represent the effort and determination required to overcome obstacles and reach a higher level of connection and communication.

The lyrics also touch on themes of vulnerability and the complexity of emotions within relationships. The line "Do you want to hurt me, See how deep the bullet lies" suggests a deep-seated pain or conflict that may not be immediately visible but has a profound impact on the individuals involved. The thunder in our hearts symbolizes the intensity of emotions and the potential for both turmoil and passion in relationships.

The repeated refrain of "You and me, won't be unhappy" underscores the shared commitment to finding happiness and understanding together. The invitation to exchange experiences and moments suggests a willingness to bridge the gap between perspectives and communicate openly and honestly. Overall, the song captures the longing for connection, the struggle to navigate emotions, and the hope for resolution and mutual understanding in relationships.

The chromatics pretty much are essential for night time driving. They have that haunting quality that just works better for a night time drive.

@RTek1986

AGREED.

I literally used to frequently drive down this road in the video (95 in Northern Virginia) down to Williamsburg, which is a 3 1/2 hour+ drive at night, and would frequently play Chromatics and Grimes, both excellent night music choices.
