The Rainmaker's job is to bring the rain from the heavens to end the drought

Without the Rainmaker's intervention, the crops will wither and die

There are many opinions about the Rainmaker's abilities

The Rainmaker has put his life on the line to make rain happen

One time I had a whole town beatin' the drums
The Rainmaker once got the whole town excited about the prospect of rain

The town sang and prayed for rain all night

We watched the morning sun come up and not a raincloud in sight
Despite the town's efforts, there was no rain in the morning

I knew if I didn't make some weather and see them storm clouds gather
The Rainmaker had to make some rain clouds appear or be banished from the town

I'd be run out of town when the sun went down
If the Rainmaker couldn't produce rain, he would be chased out of town

Covered up in tar and feathers
The Rainmaker would be publicly humiliated and punished

I was on my knees and I raised my hands to the Heaven's high
The Rainmaker prayed for divine intervention

I felt this rain like a sigh of relief come pourin' from the sky
Finally, it started raining, providing relief to the people

Sometimes I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse
The Rainmaker is not always sure if his gift is a blessing or a curse

Too little rain is not enough and too much just makes things worse
Rainfall must be just the right amount; too little or too much can have adverse effects

Well, the good Lord promised me a miracle in this life
The Rainmaker believes he was promised a miracle by God

With only one condition
With one caveat

He said, "Take your money get out of town
God orders the Rainmaker to leave town with his earnings

Don't try and start another religion", oh, oh
But God warns him not to start a new religion in another town
