Haunted
Old Funeral Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When an heir is born, he is heard to mourn
And when ought is to befall
That ancient line in the pale of moonshine

He walks from all to hall
His form you may trace, but not his face
'tis shadowed by his cowl
But his eyes may be seen from the folds between
And they seem of a parted soul

Say nought to thim as he walks the hall
And he'll say nought to you
He sweeps along in his dusky pall

As o'er the grass the dew
Then gramercy for the black friar
Heaven sain him, fair no foul

And whatsoe'er may be his prayer
Let ours be for his soul

When an heir is born, he is heard to mourn

And when ouhgt is to befall
That ancient line in the pale of moonshine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Old Funeral's song Haunted are filled with dark imagery, suggesting the presence of a ghost or spirit haunting a particular place—a hall, perhaps the home of an ancient and cursed line. The opening lines state that when an heir is born, he is heard to mourn, implying that something ominous and foreboding happens when a new generation of the family inherits the hall. The entire song is filled with the idea of shadows and darkness, with the form of the ghostly figure only being visible in shadow and his eyes seeming to belong to a "parted soul."

When the ghost walks the halls, people are warned not to speak to him, as he will not speak to them. His presence is said to be sweeping and dusky, like dew on the grass. The final stanza is an invocation, asking for the blessings of heaven for the black friar, who may perhaps be the ghost invoked throughout the song.

Overall, the lyrics of Old Funeral's song Haunted are filled with supernatural imagery and bleak foreboding, lending a sense of unease to the listener. The ghostly figure is never fully explained, but his presence in the halls of the ancient line is clear. The language used is archaic and poetic, suggesting that the song was intended to be evocative and haunting.

Yep had a funeral home in Guelph Ontario sold for $1, owners had to relocate it. They moved it to the country and my daughter hung around with their child, I ask him if it was haunted and he ask me how I would know that. Beautiful home now .

Rose

Greetings from oakville Ontario it's a different type of home difficulties I'm sure to overcome with any old home especially when it was a former business

It's a cool-looking place, and the price of $570,000 is reasonable enough, but I have to wonder how much the monthly utility costs are. And I'd be curious to know if the property taxes reflect the price they paid, or is it one that is more in line with the size of the property. I'd guess that latter is true and maybe not so cheap.

Property taxes in Dresden are cheap. Up until 2019 the average house price was $120,000.00. After everyone started leaving Toronto during Covid houses went up buy 400%
