See You Later
Oliver Onions Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Now Christine has left you
To go to a new clown
But our rainbow is there
So take it slow so easy Joe
See you later
Flying through the air
Drive their dune cars
Without a care
Only eat beans
What's that to you
I'd like to go back again
Long far springtime in Rome
For a lovers concerto
As I dream on this train
Going back back to my home
I feel sad it's too bad
See you later
The first verse of Oliver Onions's song See You Later talks about an old man who is left alone as his partner Christine has left him to be with someone new. Despite this, the lyrics suggest that there is hope as there is still a rainbow to hold on to. The phrase "take it slow so easy Joe" is a piece of friendly advice to the old man to take his time and not to rush things. The repetition of "See you later" at the end of the verse gives the impression of farewell or goodbye, as if the old man is leaving and will not be seen again.
The second verse introduces a new set of lyrics that seem to have no direct correlation with the first. The lyrics "Angels are fools, Flying through the air, Drive their dune cars, Without a care, Only eat beans, What's that to you, I'd like to go back again" are a random assortment of statements that at first glance appear unrelated. However, it can be interpreted that the singer is reminiscing about something that he enjoyed in the past, but now feels sad that he cannot experience it again. The mention of Rome and a "lover's concerto" suggests a romantic experience that he longs for, but knows he can never have again. The song concludes with a goodbye as the singer goes back to his home feeling sad.

Guido & Maurizio are 2 of music's most under rated geniuses. Like The Beatles, ABBA, Lime, Boney M, Roxette & The Rolling Stones they have crafted some of the music most catchiest tunes.

@pianoman74 Listen well. The song is in Bb. Not in Bb minor. I have played this song so may time at that period with my group. No mistake. By the way it's curious that you hear a minor key in this song..really unique.. It seems that you are also quite young if you don't know that at that period it was ABSOLUTELY normal to sing in FULL playback (1973) for TV audio reasons, and therefore it was accepted by all to have an equipment not 100% in line with what you actually were hearing.
