In July of that year they released their first single, with their first album following in October. After finishing in 6th place they became famous in both Cyprus and Greece. "Five musicians with varying experience, have come together to write good honest rock music. With an authentic thirst to create good heavy rock with plenty of flavour, we’re not about glamor, we’re about the music plain and simple. We hope you enjoy it, cos we’ve only just begun. Having just released their debut EP, the hard hitting and sonically diverse studio recording is just the beginning for ONE. The contrasting dynamic of the Melbourne-based 5 piece ranges from down-tuned chug-guitar with screamed vocals to subtle lyrical moments with layered atmospheric instrumentation. "
Borrowed Time
One Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
autumn rushing to our ears
(a symphony of leaves kissing leaves kissing leaves)
this time last year, you were a ghost,
trapped in your room and spanning the length of your bed to your door
like it was the atlantic
steadier footing and a new place
to lay your head down
The lyrics to One's song "Borrowed Time" seem to depict a moment of peacefulness and reflection, as the singer and a companion find respite from the autumn rush by sleeping near an ottoman. The description of the symphony of leaves evokes a sense of harmony and unity with nature, as if the world around them is joining in their moment of rest.
The second stanza takes a darker turn as the singer reflects on how different the same time of year can feel from one year to the next. The imagery of a ghost trapped in a room, spanning the distance to the door like it was a vast ocean, speaks to the feeling of being stuck and unable to escape one's own mind or circumstances. However, the final line of the stanza holds a glimmer of hope, as it implies that this dark time has passed and things have improved.
The final stanza seems to confirm that sense of hope, as the singer acknowledges the difference a year can make, and celebrates the steadier footing and new place to rest their head. It's a reminder that even in difficult times, things can and do change for the better.
