1) One Man Army was a punk rock band from San Francisco, California. They were discovered by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong while playing in an East Bay club, and their debut album Dead End Stories was the first release on Adeline Records, Armstrong's label. Originally consisting of Jack Dalrymple (guitar, lead vocals), Brandon Pollack (drums), and James Kotter (bass), the members at the time of separation were Dalrymple, Heiko Schrepel (bass, backup vocals) and Chip Hanna (drums).
Together since 1996, rumors began spreading around 2003 that the band had broken up; One Man Army officially called it quits in 2005.
The band released three albums, Dead End Stories on Adeline Records (1998), Last Word Spoken on Adeline Records (2000), and Rumors and Headlines on BYO Records (2002). The band recorded a split EP with Chicago punk rock band Alkaline Trio in 2004. This was to be their last recorded effort.
The band have a live DVD, "The Show Must Go Off" released by Kung Fu Records in 2003.
Dalrymple went on to form Dead to Me (Fat Wreck Chords) with Western Addiction front man Chicken. Dalrymple co-wrote their debut album Cuban Ballerina as well as an EP Little Brother, but parted ways with Dead to Me after the birth of his first son. It is rumored that he will eventually return to Dead to Me for future projects. He also plays guitar in the Swingin' Utters and the Re-Volts.

But What Are You Doing Now
Do You Still Rely On Days Gone By
The Past Is Said And Done
We've Heard The Same Old Story
Time And Time Again
Built On Your Reputation
Of Being A Punk Back Then
Back Then
You Used To Be A Punk Back Then
Is It The Praise That They Would Sing
Or Is There More To Be Made For
The Glory Or The Fame Or For The Friends That You Made
Hanging Around For The Last Of It All
A Dead Man Is Bound To Float
You Used To Be A Lot Of Things Time And Time Again
Back Then.
The lyrics of One Man Army's song "Back Then" delve into the theme of nostalgia and the idea of how people tend to cling onto their past achievements. The song seems to target individuals who tend to reminisce about their punk pasts, their reputation and the acclaim that they received, instead of moving forward and progressing.
The opening line "You used to be a lot of things, but what are you doing now?" is a rhetorical question directed towards those who glorify their past and fail to recognize how they can make changes in the present. The next lines "Do you still rely on days gone by? The past is said and done" not only re-emphasize the same point but also present the notion of moving on from the past and letting go.
The following lines "We've heard the same old story, time and time again, built on your reputation of being a punk back then" further indicate how the singer is tired of listening to the same old tales of glory and reputation of the past. The repetition of the phrase "Back then" in the chorus is another reminder of how the past is just that - the past.
Overall, the song "Back Then" highlights the importance of not dwelling in the past, and instead, focusing on the present to make better choices and progress forward.
