Always wonderered about the Pretender shell part, is it the same size as the first set of Pretenders ? ( the ones from Masterforce )? or is it much bigger ?

The Pretender shells were made to "hide" the inner robot. However in this case, the shell has the really bulky back because of the shape of Grand. And yes, none of the Pretender shells look anything like humans:)

Entertaining or not, it IS the only Grand Max review on youtube, so you get points for that alone. But wow, such a minty and complete Grand Max you got there. If he's not the high point of your collection...well, I'd love to know what is!

Nice additonal gimmick with the pretender shell, but what purpose was it supposed to serve? In the old animation series, Grand never tried to pass for a human, but anyway great review.

that's perfect mint condition inside the unopened box. if hes looking for a lower quality then the figure without the box and with a bit off damage (scratches, maybe a few chips and dents) then it can go or as low as maybe three hundred, sometimes lower depending on how desperate or stupid the seller is

Actually, I just watched Masterforce and Grand was always in pretender mode.

yes he did .. In the Japanese Masterforce series Grand max uses the human pretender shell more than once , especially towards the last episodes.

And the pretender shell even looks decidedly robotic. Pretty much the only hint to being a human was in close-ups when you could see human eyes behind the visor, suggesting it was all just the same kind of armour the other Autobot pretenders had.

i found the head for one of them at the flea market, i am not a toy collector, i am more of a retro gaming collector, but it caught my eye, thanks for the review it was helpfull to pin point what it belonged to.

I checked him against a couple others and he's about the same size. Maybe a 1/2 inch bigger than some others. His back is the much bigger part.

No, i traded a guy from a toy show some G1 figures and cash. I still paid a lot but not as much as everyone thinks. Still...It's a good investment. 10 years ago they were selling for $1000-2000

Keep checking Ebay, Transformer forums and even toy shows in your area. Good luck and beware of knock off parts. They are every where now.

I have one of these in super pristine condition. I have all the original stickers, but none of them applied. Box is obviously a little shop worn due to age, but in good condition. What would be the starting asking price for such an item?

Not even close:) I traded some duplicate G1 Transformers and cash for Grand Max. And my Brave Max only cost $125. back in 2000.

Yeah it was either Grand or Black. Grand's more expensive so i picked him up. Not plannin on buying any more expensive ones unless I unload a bunch of stuff.

I guess I could have, but he's in another ballpark next to these figures. I also don't have Metrotitan and someone would want a video of him too next to Metroplex. I'm sure someone has a video of all the G1 bases. That would be very cool. Time for me to search...
