Patron
Orlando Vera Cruz Lyrics

esa sombra que tirita tras sus reses,
huella y harapos, comiendo a veces,
The song "Patrón" by Orlando Vera Cruz illustrates the relationship between a boss and his worker or peón in Spanish. The term patron, which means boss or employer, is used to describe the shadow that follows the boss around. The shadow refers to the peón, who is depicted as a pitiful, oppressed figure. The lyrics paint a picture of a peón who works tirelessly for his boss, enduring harsh working conditions and a meager salary. The boss, on the other hand, enjoys the fruits of the peón's labor and lives a comfortable life, completely detached from the struggles of his worker.
The song highlights the power dynamics that exist between an employer and employee in many parts of the world, where workers are often exploited and subjected to unfair treatment. Despite the pain and suffering that the peón experiences, he remains loyal to his boss, which is depicted in the line "ahí va su peón" ("there goes his peón"). The song reminds us of the importance of treating workers with respect and providing them with fair working conditions and wages.
