OK, here's the deal, I bought this record 50 years ago, I thought it was crazy, but I said to myself all these guys are master musicians, and if this is the way it sounds it's because it's the they want it to sound, and for good reason. Right ?....so I sat through it again, and again, and again, and before I knew what hit me I'm diggin' it,I am hearing how these guys are playing off of each other in this new to me musical language. ..still have the album ,and still loving it. I especially enjoy hearing my 2 favorite bass players intertwine. ...Thank you all for this exceptionally masterful performance....R.I.P. to those no longer with us, but always will be due to the legacies that they've so generously left behind for us !.....and if it's not asking to much, please, please prayers for our Brother Mr. Kieth Jarrett.

When I was a young man, I was one of those jazz purists who didn’t like what Ornette was making, but many years later and listening to more of his music, I realized I was wrong.

I heard Albert Ayler sit in with Ornette at the Village Vanguard January 1965. Now that was "free", "out" playing! Just like when Albert played with Coltrane in 1966. Albert to me was like the original Punk musician.

This album grabbed me and shook me from the very beginning. I was in college in the mid-1970s, so it was old to the world, but new to me. I had been prepared by listening to Zappa for some years before. Only later did I realize the debt Zappa had to Ornette. Fort Worth, my hometown, should have a statue of him, Dewey Redmon, Julius Hemphill and other luminaries of I.M. Terrell High School.

This reminds me of a Picasso painting of New York City at night. I really enjoyed it. I especially loved the bass solos. Both awesome players, but Scott Lafaro is amazing. Too bad his life and career were cut so dramatically short. I also wonder if this is a nod to Penderecki (I know Don Cherry had some collaborative ties with Penderecki) who was also busy shocking the world at about this time period. Also recommend Coltrane's "Ascension." Another brilliant work. Thanks for posting this!
