Out Came the Wolves Lyrics

11: 30 The muddy water fills the air
Walking slowly a women standing in the dark
Why did you come did you come so far
What are you here to find

Boy have you lost your mind
Boy have you lost your mind
Boy have you lost your mind

Just leave nobody gets what they need
You'll pay the price and we'll sing
We'll sing
Buried alive buried alive
Just leave nobody gets what they need
You'll pay the price and we'll sing
we'll sing
Buried alive buried alive

The sun is dying, falling down into the night
Driving slowly she was kinda not my type
Why did you come did you come so far
What a waste of time a waste of time

I think she lost her mind
I think she lost her mind
She had to die

Just leave nobody gets what they need
You'll pay the price and we'll sing
We'll sing
Buried alive buried alive
Just leave nobody gets what they need
You'll pay the price and we'll sing we'll sing
Buried alive buried alive
Face down the Angels carry you now

There's no point of return
There's no point of return
This is it this is all that I have left

Just leave nobody gets what they need
You'll pay the price and we'll sing we'll sing
Buried alive buried alive
Just leave nobody gets what they need
You'll pay the price and we'll sing we'll sing
Buried alive buried alive

Face down
Buried alive

Face down
Buried alive

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Out Came the Wolves's song "Queen Mary" seem to tell a story of a protagonist who is lost and wandering in a desolate place, perhaps a swamp. He encounters a woman who seems to be lost as well, and the two question each other's motives. The woman warns the singer to leave, as nobody gets what they need by staying there, and they will eventually be buried alive. The singer continues to drive slowly and encounters her again, this time something is not quite right with her as he feels like she may have lost her mind. In the end, it seems as though the singer has gone too far and cannot turn back, and he ends up buried alive like the woman had warned him.

The lyrics of the song seem to have a few different interpretations depending on who's listening. However, one reading of the lyrics is that it is an allegory about addiction. The muddy water could represent the substance(s) that the singer is addicted to, and the woman he meets could be representing addiction itself, warning him to leave before it's too late. The singer's inability to turn back could represent the intense hold addiction can have on a person.
