Welcome
Outhouse Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Over the water
Eyes to the sea
Somebody's daughter
Wants to be free

Soon I'll be happy
Soon I'll be free
I long to be someone
Other than me

Welcome to this world of mine
Welcome to this place in time
I could hang myself
And I would not mind
Welcome to this world of mine

Out of the ashes into the sun
Somebody crashes
Worlds become one

Welcome to this world of mine
Welcome to this place in time
I could hang myself
And I would not mind
Welcome to this world of mine

Hold on, hold on
Hold on, my love

Still hear your voice
Still taste your blood

So long, so long
So long, my love

Over the water under the sea
Somebody's daughter
Is finally free

Welcome to this world of mine
Welcome to this place in time
I could hang myself
And I would not mind
Welcome to this world of mine

Welcome to this world
Welcome to this world

Welcome to this world
Welcome to this world of mine

Overall Meaning

The song "Welcome" by Outhouse portrays the desire to escape from the burdens of an individual's personal life and the welcoming of a new beginning. The lyrics "Over the water, eyes to the sea" and "Somebody's daughter wants to be free" illustrate the view of the persona, who wants to be liberated from their present situation. The lines "Soon I'll be happy, soon I'll be free" and "I long to be someone other than me" accentuate the eagerness and hope for a new life.

In the second verse, the lyrics "Out of the ashes into the sun, somebody crashes, worlds become one" construe the possibility of starting anew and in a new world, where the burdens of the past can be left behind. The phrase "Still hear your voice, still taste your blood" emphasizes the lingering remnants that the person carries from their past. However, the stanza "So long, so long, so long, my love...Somebody's daughter is finally free" signify the end of a chapter, yet with the outlook of hope and liberty.

Overall, the song's lyrics suggest the desire to start a new life, to break free from the woes of the past and to start afresh in a new world of possibilities. The phrase "Welcome to this world of mine" is a welcoming of a new chapter, of hope and of possibilities.

This song is seriously underrated. I searched for this for ten...ten...yes ten years. I was in Wisconsin and heard it one time and wanted to find it. Took me forever. I'm a pro wrestler. Drug this to Japan. They loved it. These guys need to put out something likewise

I remember when I heard these guys on the radio....and years passed before I hopped on dial-up, with napster and downloaded their songs. The guy I downloaded the songs from on napster, was actually a local friend of the members of the band - and he mailed me a signed copy of their CD before this one. Still one of my favorite albums to this day.

PS

The guys name on napster was "TheRedKitchen," if you're poking around here :)
