To date, Overkill has released nineteen studio albums, an album of cover songs, two EPs, one demo tape and three live albums. They were one of the first thrash metal bands to sign to a major label (having signed to Atlantic Records in 1986), and rose to fame as part of the genre's movement of the mid-to-late 1980s, along with the "Big Four" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) as well as Exodus and Testament. Overkill achieved their first mainstream success with its second studio album and Atlantic debut, Taking Over (1987), which peaked at number 191 on the Billboard 200. The band's next five studio albums—Under the Influence (1988), The Years of Decay (1989), Horrorscope (1991), I Hear Black (1993) and W.F.O. (1994)—were also successful on the Billboard charts, with the latter two cracking the top ten on the Top Heatseekers chart. Following their split from Atlantic in 1995, Overkill went through some label changes, but continued to enjoy moderate underground success, particularly in Europe and Japan. The band experienced a resurgence of popularity in the U.S. during the 2010s, with three of their studio albums released that decade—The Electric Age (2012), White Devil Armory (2014) and The Grinding Wheel (2017)—reaching the top 100 on the charts. Overkill has sold over 16 million records worldwide; they are also estimated to have sold more than 625,000 records in the United States since the beginning of the SoundScan era.

Forked Tongue Kiss
Overkill Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Got a fistful of memories,a long lost innocence
Hey baby, dead baby devil he embracin' you
With a long forked-tongue-kiss
Suckin' all the life from you
If you need to reach me
I'm breaking one through ten
Can I get an amen
Passion on a ??????? gotta get it while it's not
With a self-centered psychopath givin' a forget-me-not
Rape me, rape me everybody gets in line
With a long forked-tongue-kiss
Sucked away the rest of time
If you need to reach me
I'm breaking one through ten
And if you really need me
Can I get an amen
Longview in your eye
Seal it with a kiss, you get the
Long forked tongue kiss
Memory in your fist, seal it with a kiss
You get the
Long forked tongue kiss
Lay on down in the bed you made
It's a little too late to cry
Or too be afraid
Driven by the high heat, call it love
Driven by the high heat
Of the velvet glove
Call it free-will,call it choice
You know you ain't alone now
There's a second voice
When you're not alone
Short view on the eye, a pocketful a' pestilence
With a fistful a' memories, a long lost innocence
Be-be-be-baby devil he embracin' you
With a long-forked-tongue-kiss
Suckin' all the life from you
If you need to reach me
I'm breaking one through ten
And if you really need me
Can I get an amen [Repeat x2]
Longview in your eye
Seal it with a kiss, you get the
Long forked tongue kiss
Memory in your fist, seal it with a kiss
You get the
Long forked tongue kiss
The lyrics of "Forked Tongue Kiss" by Overkill describe the destructive and all-consuming nature of a toxic relationship. The singer uses vivid language to depict the actions of the partner as if they were a malevolent devil, with a long forked-tongue-kiss sucking all the life out of the singer. The imagery used creates a sense of danger and urgency, representing the partner's actions as a threat to the singer's longevity. The song's lyrics also detail the level of control the partner has over the singer, with the use of words like "rape" and "psychopath," highlighting the level of exploitation endured. Yet, despite the obvious dangers and harmful effects of this relationship, the singer still longs for its touch, asking for an "amen" to signify acceptance of the situation.
The lyrics also touch upon the theme of free will and choice, hinting at the idea that the singer has agreed to the abuse consciously. The mention of the "velvet glove" could be interpreted as the partner masking their true intentions and presenting a much softer facade to their victim, creating a sense of emotional disconnect between reality and what is presented. The final stanza calls for acceptance and resilience in the face of the consequences created by one's conscious decision.

any chance of ever doing a video for "i am fear"? it's a track that i am sure, by most, is considered "filler material", but as i've said before--OVERKILL HAS NO FILLER MATERIAL. it's a killer track.
Living For The Kill
Of course there's plans for "I am Fear"... just progressing from tracks 1-12 from each CD in release order. Looks like it's gonna be in the next 10 to me...
Big Homie Steve The Metal Head
I fucking love this song, it's my favorite song on this album with "Stone Cold Jesus" and "I'm Fear" tied for second favorite. Necroshine kicks ass!!!
Iordache Sorin
Overkill has quite a few songs without solos (kinda unnatural in thrash metal) but still manage to hit the spot. That's songwriting for ya!

Best song off Necroshine, along with the title track.

The big 4 should be Megadeth, Slayer, Testement, Overkill.
Big Homie Steve The Metal Head
They really should be in the Big 4, Overkill blows Anthrax out of the water! It's sad that Overkill doesn't get the recognition they deserve, they're one of the best Thrash bands out there.
