To date, Overkill has released nineteen studio albums, an album of cover songs, two EPs, one demo tape and three live albums. They were one of the first thrash metal bands to sign to a major label (having signed to Atlantic Records in 1986), and rose to fame as part of the genre's movement of the mid-to-late 1980s, along with the "Big Four" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) as well as Exodus and Testament. Overkill achieved their first mainstream success with its second studio album and Atlantic debut, Taking Over (1987), which peaked at number 191 on the Billboard 200. The band's next five studio albums—Under the Influence (1988), The Years of Decay (1989), Horrorscope (1991), I Hear Black (1993) and W.F.O. (1994)—were also successful on the Billboard charts, with the latter two cracking the top ten on the Top Heatseekers chart. Following their split from Atlantic in 1995, Overkill went through some label changes, but continued to enjoy moderate underground success, particularly in Europe and Japan. The band experienced a resurgence of popularity in the U.S. during the 2010s, with three of their studio albums released that decade—The Electric Age (2012), White Devil Armory (2014) and The Grinding Wheel (2017)—reaching the top 100 on the charts. Overkill has sold over 16 million records worldwide; they are also estimated to have sold more than 625,000 records in the United States since the beginning of the SoundScan era.

NEVER SAY DIE
Overkill Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
People going nowhere, taken for a ride
Looking for the answers that they know inside
Searching for a reason, looking for a rhyme
Snow White's mirror said "partners in crime!"
Don't they ever have to worry?
It's a part of me that tells you
Oh, don't you ever, don't ever say die
Never, never, never say die again
Sunday's satisfaction, Monday's home and dry
Truth is on the doorstep, welcome in the lie
All dressed up in sorrow, got no place to go
Hold tight, do it ready, taking it slow
Don't they ever have to worry?
Don't you ever wonder why?
It's a part of me that tells you
Oh, don't you ever, don't ever say die
Never, never, never say die again
Don't you ever say die
Don't you ever say die
Never say die
Panic, silver lining, writing's on the wall
Children get together, you can save us all
Future's on the corner, throwing us a die
Slow down, turn around, everything's fine
Don't they ever have to worry?
Don't you ever wonder why?
It's a part of me that tells you
Oh, don't you ever, don't ever say die
Never, never, never say die again
Never say die again
The lyrics of “Never Say Die” by Black Sabbath seem to speak about people who are lost and searching for answers, looking for something that might not even exist. It appears that people are blindly chasing after something that they believe is the answer but in reality is just an illusion. The line “Snow White's mirror said partners in crime!” emphasizes the idea that people might be caught up in fantasies and might be in cahoots together in their delusions.
The song later speaks about the truth and lies, and how truth might be difficult to handle and people prefer to accept the lie. They are all dressed up in sorrow but have nowhere to go, hence they take it slow. The lyrics then suggest that it's important not to give up hope, and not to let our circumstances get the best of us. The future might seem risky, but people should take the chance and throw the die. Everything will eventually work out fine.
Overall, the lyrics of the song seem to have a positive message, encouraging people to keep going even when things are tough, and to never give up. A part of the self tells one to keep moving forward and not to let the difficulties bog them down. People should keep in mind that they can always turn things around, and that they should never say die.
