F**kin` Perfect

Dug my way out, blood and fire
Bad decisions, that's alright
Welcome to my silly life
Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood
Miss "No way, it's all good", it didn't slow me down
Mistaken, always second guessing, underestimated
Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever ever feel
Like you're less than fuckin' perfect
Pretty pretty please, if you ever, ever feel like you're nothing
You're fuckin' perfect to me!
You're so mean, when you talk, about yourself you were wrong
Change the voices in your head, make them like you instead
So complicated, look how big, you'll make it
Filled with so much hatred, such a tired game
It's enough! I've done all I can think of
Chased down all my demons, I've seen you do the same
Oh, pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel
Like you're less than fuckin' perfect
Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel like you're nothing
You're fuckin' perfect to me
The whole world's scared, so I swallow the fear
The only thing I should be drinking is an ice cold beer
So cool and limed and we try, try, try
But we try too hard and its a waste of my time
Done looking for the critics 'cause there everywhere
They don't like my jeans, they don't get my hair
Exchange ourselves and we do it all the time
Why do we do that, why do I do that?
Why do I do that?
Oh, pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel
Like you're less than fuckin' perfect
Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel like you're nothing
You're fuckin' perfect to me!
You're perfect, you're perfect
Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel like you're nothing
You're fuckin' perfect to me
The opening lines of "F**kin Perfect" by P!nk present a reflection on the mistakes and bad decisions that the singer has made in her life. However, instead of dwelling on those experiences, she proudly welcomes them as part of her silly life. The following lines present observations of being mistreated, misplaced, and misunderstood, as well as being underestimated and always second-guessed. Still, the singer perseveres and remains around despite the odds. The chorus of the song is a poignant message of self-love and acceptance. The lyrics encourage the listener to not feel "less than fuckin' perfect" and to know that they are enough, despite society's expectations and their own inner critic. P!nk tells the audience that they are perfect to her and that they should adopt this same mindset for themselves.
The second verse continues the theme of self-doubt and the inner critic. The lyrics call for changing the voices in your head to be more positive and optimistic. The singer acknowledges how complicated life can be but reminds that one can achieve greatness and overcome struggles if they believe in themselves. The next few lines describe the futile efforts of seeking external validation and trying to please others. The final chorus repeats the message of self-love and acceptance from the first chorus, emphasizing that the listener is perfect, just the way they are.
Overall, "F**kin Perfect" is a powerful anthem that promotes self-confidence and self-love. P!nk encourages listeners to embrace their true selves and not to let societal norms or their inner critic bring them down.

I’ve always struggled with loving myself honestly. I feel that I just can’t seem to appreciate what I have and seem to always feel that the grass is always greener on the other side. I feel there is always someone prettier, more confident, more talented, smarter, more outgoing etc., and usually I try to force myself into spaces where I don’t belong.
I have a favorite poem that speaks of two people who shared the same blue skin, but always kept it concealed from the world and one day passed each other without ever knowing. Sometimes I think this is true for a lot of people. We try to appease others so badly rather than being our authentic selves that we tend to mask the “flawed” parts of ourselves that are essentially what makes us lovable and perfectly imperfect for someone. In trying to be someone we are not, we ironically become artificial and lose sight of what we truly need, which limits our ability to attract what is truly meant for us.
Perhaps you are like me, the weird, socially awkward girl and dreamer who never quite fit the mold and felt shunned by the world for the things that mismatch on the surface. You were always told “be more outgoing, be more feminine, pay more attention, stop being so weird and annoying, use your head”, which ultimately creates a sense of inferiority in you that makes you hate yourself.
Even if you are one of the weirdos like me, and even if it takes you an entire lifetime to find that one person, I guarantee that out of all the 7 billion “normies” who conform, there will be one oddball who will understand you and love you beyond condition. Even if you feel defective and have been exposed to a lifetime of people trying to “fix you”, there will be one person who will fall in love with your imperfections and see the rare beauty you have to offer.
It’s natural to seek companionship and to want to minimize your quirks to be accepted, but is that truly living? What are you truly left with once you hollow your soul and extract the essence of who you are to be what you are not? Nothing but a shadow.
Even if you are too “weird” for most of this world and struggle to find someone who understands, there will be one person who will love you regardless, simply for being yourself. You will be both be “psychos” together, and as the saying says, to the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.
