That Means A Lot
P.J. Proby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A friend says that your love won't mean a lot
And you know that your love is all you've got
At times things are so fine and at times they're not
But when she says she loves you, that means a lot
A friend says a love is never true
And you know that this don't apply to you
A touch can mean so much when it's all you've got
When she says she loves you that means a lot
Love can be deep inside, love can be suicide
Can't you see you can't hide what you feel when it's real
A friend says that your love won't mean a lot
And you know your love is all you've got
At touch can mean so much when it's all you've got
When she says she loves you that means a lot
Can't you see, yeah, can't you see, yeah
Can't you see, yeah, can't you see, yeah

Can't you see, yeah, can't you see, yeah
Can't you see, yeah, can't you see, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of P.J. Proby's song "That Means A Lot" describe the importance of love in one's life. The song talks about a friend who has told the singer that his love won't mean much, but the singer knows that his love is all he has. The song emphasizes that love can be both good and bad, but nothing can replace the feeling of being loved. The line "a touch can mean so much when it's all you've got" highlights the significance of simple gestures in a relationship.

The song also talks about the doubts and fears that come with being in love. Love can be deep and all-consuming, and sometimes it can lead to self-destruction. However, the song encourages the listener to embrace their feelings and not hide them, as real love is worth it. The repeated lines at the end of the song, "can't you see, yeah, can't you see, yeah," emphasize the importance of recognizing the significance of love in life.

Overall, "That Means A Lot" is a sentimental love song that encourages the listener to appreciate love, even when it gets tough.

There is nothing more exciting that exists for a child of the the 60's than P.J.

What a showman. He could hold an audience in the palm of his hand.

+mrtibbs53 Yup. Fantastic voice and charisma. He could really change his voice. He sings the Beach Boys Don't Worry Baby in a high kinda falsetto, and then Maria in a great theatrical voice, and another song Question he sounds like a black soul singer from the mid sixties.

Now I know where Freddie Mercury got his moves from

wOw! This live performance really shows an Elvis influence. I would never have thought it of this song but PJ takes it there. A very good performance of a nifty song that doesn't always get the spotlight. I've always liked George Martin's horn arrangement on this one also.

@Thejbirdy

P.J. Really exudes greatness for this terrific song....thank you Paul as well.

One of PJ's 'BEST' songs...

@Dragonblaster1

Written by Paul McCartney.

@Prettb1

They Lip sang back then. He definitely could sing live as well but if you see no band and no mike it was all audio.

One of my favourites songs of his, this wonderfully sexy performer who’s voice is phenomenal, we were/are very lucky to still have him performing.
I just adore him
