Blurry
P.M. Dawn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everything's so blurry and everyone's so fake
And everybody's empty and everything is so messed up
Preoccupied, without you, I cannot live at all
My whole world surrounds you, I stumble then I crawl
You could be my someone, you could be my scene
You know that I'll protect you from all of the obscene
I wonder what you're doing, I wonder where you are
There's oceans in between us, but that's not very far

Can you take it all away?
Can you take it all away?
Well, you shoved it in my face
This pain you gave to me
Can you take it all away?
Can you take it all away?
Well, you shoved it in my face

Everyone is changing, no one left is real
So make up your own ending and let me know how you feel
Well, I am lost without you, I cannot live at all
My whole world surrounds you, I stumble then I crawl
You could be my someone, you could be my scene
You know that I will save you from all of the obscene
I could be your spirit, imagine where you are
There's oceans in between us, and that's not very far

Can you take it all away?
Can you take it all away?
Well, you shoved it in my face
This pain you gave to me
Can you take it all away?
Can you take it all away?

Well, you shoved it in my face
This pain you gave to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Blurry" by P.M. Dawn reflect feelings of confusion, disillusionment, and longing in relationships. The singer expresses a sense of disorientation in a world that feels fake and empty, where they are preoccupied and unable to live without the person they care about. The language of blurriness and emptiness emphasizes a lack of clarity and genuine connection in their surroundings.

The lyrics convey a deep emotional dependency on the person the singer is addressing. They describe how their whole world revolves around this individual, and without them, they feel lost and struggle to move forward. The imagery of stumbling and crawling without this person illustrates the difficulty and pain the singer experiences in their absence.

The repeated question "Can you take it all away?" suggests a desire for the other person to alleviate the pain and confusion caused by their absence or actions. The singer feels overwhelmed by the anguish inflicted on them and pleads for relief from this emotional burden. The metaphor of having pain shoved in their face conveys a sense of powerlessness and hurt inflicted by the actions of the other person.

The lyrics also touch upon the theme of change and the loss of authenticity in relationships. The singer acknowledges that everyone is changing and no one seems genuine anymore, prompting them to seek closure or resolution through creating their own ending. The longing for connection and the willingness to protect and save the other person from the harsh realities of life illustrate a deep emotional bond and a sense of sacrifice in the relationship. The mention of oceans separating them physically but not emotionally symbolizes the distance and yearning present in the connection.

These guys were so ahead of their time. Their covers were so beautiful, their originals so unique.. and overall they had a mystic quality to their sound that no one else has had that I know of.

@codeman1987

Thanks for uploading!

@houseofono

Sadly, this isn't the version from NBC. This isn't even Prince Be doing lead vocals. It's the "other guy" Doc G doing lead but all the backgrounds are Be. I got got before on a "PM Dawn" album that was all Doc G on vocals. I deleted it with a quickness.

@areyoutyler

I think that the NBC version is lost.

@houseofono

@@areyoutyler I found it on DailyMotion. You'll notice that Doc G doesn't even do background vocals on that performance.
