While playing in P.S. Eliot, the Crutchfield sisters also both played in Bad Banana. Katie Crutchfield also recorded solo under the name King Everything.
After the band broke up in 2011, the Crutchfield sisters pursued their own musical projects: Katie Crutchfield started Waxahatchee and Allison Crutchfield started Swearin'.
The band briefly reunited in June 2016 for a tour, which took place the following September.
Tennessee
P.S. Eliot Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A cold heart and an altered state of mind
And baby you're just what I'm looking for
Because we'll go to sleep when we're dead
And I'll quit when I'm 25
But now I'm feeling indestructible
Aimlessly alive
Great artists, narcissistic
It seems like you fucked up down this road before
But you know me, I'm pessimistic
The elusive or the primitive divine
I'll go wherever it goes
Butterfly guts on the windshield
Cigarette smoke out the window
I've got a mental image of the way you used to look at me
Baby, let's push our limits
I've got a west coast heart and an east coast mentality
Baby, let's push our limits
I've got a racing mind and enough gas to get to Tennessee
Baby, let's push our limits
I've got a west coast heart and an east coast mentality
Baby, let's push our limits tonight
In this song, "Tennessee" by P.S. Eliot, the lyrics are depicting the youthful mentality of living life on the edge and enjoying every moment to the fullest. The singer is experiencing an altered state of mind, made clear in the lyrics, "A cold heart and an altered state of mind, And baby, you're just what I'm looking for." This person is experiencing a range of emotions, from affection to criticism, and has an aversion to monogamy. Instead of conforming to societal norms, they are choosing to live adventurously with a strong, racing mind, enough to get to Tennessee.
Additionally, the lyrics seem to indicate a kind of recklessness or lack of concern for the future or consequences. They plan to go to sleep when they're dead and quit when they're 25, which suggests a disregard for long-term goals and planning. The singer seems excited by the idea of being indestructible and alive for the moment. This attitude is encapsulated in the lyrics, "But now I'm feeling indestructible, Aimlessly alive."
Furthermore, the reference to "Butterfly guts on the windshield, Cigarette smoke out the window," gives the impression of a fast-paced lifestyle that is not without danger. The singer is pushing themselves to the brink, and the listener can feel the adrenaline coursing through the lyrics.
