Missing
PHOENIX CAN DIE Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I step off the train
I'm walking down your street again
Past your door
But you don't live there anymore
It's years since you've been there
Now you've disappeared somewhere
Like outer space
You've found some better place
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
Could you be dead?
You always were two steps ahead of everyone
We'd walk behind while you would run
I look up at your house
And I can almost hear you shout down to me
Where I always used to be
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
Back on the train, I ask why did I come again?
Can I confess, I've been hanging round your old address?
The years have proved
To offer nothing since you've moved
You're long gone, but I can't move on
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain (yeah I miss you)
I step off the train
I'm walking down your street again
Past your door
I guess you don't live there anymore
It's years since you've been there
And now you've disappeared somewhere
Like outer space
You've found some better place
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, yeah
Like the deserts miss the rain (I miss you)
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, yeah
Like the deserts miss the rain (like the deserts miss the rain)
like the desets miss the rain
(Like the deserts miss the rain) and I miss you, yeah

(Like the deserts miss the rain) oh, how I miss you
(Like the deserts miss the rain)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Missing" by Phoenix Can Die portray the feeling of longing and nostalgia for someone who is no longer in the singer's life. The song begins with the singer stepping off a train and walking down a familiar street, reminiscing about the past. The person they miss used to live there, but has since disappeared.

The lyrics metaphorically compare the absence of this person to the way deserts miss the rain. The deserts, being dry and barren, long for the nourishment and life that rain brings. Similarly, the singer deeply misses the presence and companionship of the person who has moved on to a "better place."

The second verse suggests that the person the singer misses may have passed away. They were always ahead of everyone, while the singer walked behind. Looking up at their old house, the singer hears echoes of their voice, but realizes they can never go back to the way things were.

The chorus repeats the sentiment of missing the person "like the deserts miss the rain," emphasizing the depth of the longing. The final verse reflects on the futility of holding onto this longing, questioning why the singer keeps returning to their old address. The years have proven that nothing has changed since the person left, and yet the singer struggles to move on.

Overall, "Missing" is a melancholic and introspective song that reflects on the pain of missing someone who has moved on, both physically and emotionally.

This may be a case of rational suicide, as a preparation for death with dignity. May thier soul rest in peace.

@weaverdreams

These ladies should not be judged. They went to Switzerland for assisted suicide. We have no idea what they were going through. People are so scared to admit they dont look forward to old age / sickness and many are afraid of death. But when you know your soul lives on and life has become unbearable, then clearly you have a choice: to continue the suffering or leave this world.

NDE channels say the same thing: after death we are finally free of all the negativity of this world and God does love all of us, and envelops us in LOVE on the other side. Judging someone’s entire life by the way they left the planet is unfair, shallow, callous, & ignorant.

@sagittariusa9012

To clear things up. There were no crime involved. The sisters used the assisted suicide service in Switzerland.

@KB-kg1ug

The assisted suicide??? What is that?
