An interesting historical observation - When this song was popular on commercial broadcast radio, it was common to hear this song sandwiched in with Frank Sinatra, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Iron Butterfly, orchestral instrumentals by Percy Faith, Jimi Hendrix. There were no "Oldies" or other specialty stations. We simply listened to literally "all kinds of music"

Huh? "Too good for mainstream top 40 audiences". Silly remark. Excuse me, that's what was available in the summer of '70. There was no other venue for hip sophisticates such as yourself. You were forced to suffer in the company of the plebian masses. FM did not come into play until around '72 and was not rolling in earnest until '74. Chicago and Mr. Kath were a mainstay on top 40 from '69 to '72.
All the acts from Sinatra to Led Zeppelin tried to make the top 40. Zappa, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd etc. all released singles. And they had no problem with them charting. To their chagrin, I'm confident, the lower regions are all they attained.

If my memory serves me right, I think they played with Elvin Bishop & the Pointer Sisters when I saw them in the late 60's. Maybe it was Lee Michael or Boz Skaggs? I was still in high school! We took a ton of barbs that day...then we drank & smoked something from the Bong! Great times. It's a wonder I was able to make it to 67! I have a lot of memories that are clear & PG&E left their mark on me! I thank them for that. In fact, I BOW to them for that!

@R S He passed away a few years ago.He played with his brother in a band after he came home.He used to play acoustic guitar at lunch time outside when it was nice
