Coral Kiss
Pain Teens Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Angry little teeth, sharpened
Pearl cuts and bitten,
My bruised lips if I miss
Your coral kiss, does it matter?
Does it?
Necklace soft, new moon nail
Mark pressed so patiently into
My chest if I look for markings
Left too late, they're gone
What is meant by moments
Spent at little games like these?
I know that I never want to be
Apart from you.
Line of jewels around my throat
Broken cloud on my breast, A
Hidden bite inside my lip
A little nip, unable to resist, if I
Miss your coral kiss

Does it matter?
Does it?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Pain Teens’ song “Coral Kiss” evoke a sense of darkness, intimacy, and pain. The opening lines describe the teeth as angry and sharpened, creating an image of someone who is potentially dangerous or aggressive. The following lines suggest that the teeth have inflicted wounds on the singer’s lips, but they still long for the “coral kiss” of this person. The use of the phrase “coral kiss” is interesting as it is both an alliteration and a paradox as coral is rough while a kiss is soft.

The following lines paint a picture of someone wearing a necklace, with a new moon mark pressed into their chest. The singer draws attention to the markings left behind by this person and ponders about the significance of the little games they play. They express a desire to always be close to this person, despite the pain they may inflict.

The lines about the jewels and the broken cloud on the singer's chest suggest an intimate moment between two people, but the use of the word “hidden” implies that there is a darker aspect to their relationship. The final lines pose a question about the importance of this person’s “coral kiss” and whether it even matters if the singer misses out on it. The lyrics of “Coral Kiss” may be interpreted in various ways, but the underlying theme seems to be the complex, often painful, nature of human relationships.

Oh my God!!! I saw them in the late 80's or early 90. They were my favorite band in Texas. They had an awesome song called or about a "dog faced boy" the lyrics were "I found you in a garbage can, someday i'm gonna put you back" if anyone has this song, please please contact me! I've been looking for it for 20 fucking years.
