Anxiety
Palaye Royale Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My relations with the man above lately
In-decisions have been breaking my sanity
Contamination of a twisted society
Retaliation when I'm full of anxiety

And I was born to be anything I wanted to be
Raised to be fucking mean
I'm a masterpiece
Blasphemy, meet again in a world so vicious
Children crying, mothers scream, fathers drink
All you bastards scream
All you bastards scream
All you bastards scream

A Band-Aid on a bullet hole that's still bleeding
Numb you up until you can't feel a goddamn thing
A generation full of anti-sobriety
A generation that is full of anxiety
(Full of anxiety)
(Full of anxie')

And I was born to be anything I wanted to be
Raised to be fucking mean
I'm a masterpiece
Blasphemy, meet again in a world so vicious
Children crying, mothers scream, fathers drink
All you bastards scream
All you bastards scream
All you bastards scream

Remember all the voices in your head that keep talking
All the blood on your skin that keeps crawling
All the voices in your head that keep talking
All the blood on your skin that keeps crawling
All the voices in your head that keep talking
All the blood on your skin that keeps crawling
All the voices in your head that keep talking
And all the blood on your skin that keeps crawling

I was born to be anything I wanted to be
Raised to be fucking mean
I'm a masterpiece
Blasphemy, meet again in a world so vicious
Children crying, mothers scream, fathers drink
All you bastards scream

All you bastards scream
All you bastards scream

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Palaye Royale's song "Anxiety" delve into the struggles of the individual with the world around them. The first stanza starts with a reference to a higher power, whom the individual seeks answers from. The decision-making process is fraught with uncertainty and leads to a loss of sanity, while the society around them is twisted and corrupt. Responses to this state of confusion come in the form of outbursts of anger and aggression. Throughout this stanza, it's clear that the individual feels like they are trapped in a world they don't understand, unable to fathom their emotions.

The chorus of "Anxiety" reiterates the individual's potential for greatness but highlights that they are raised in a harsh, uncaring world. The implication is that this world has led to their current state of being. The use of blasphemy suggests an absence of hope and a loss of faith in the world around them. The following lines paint a bleak picture of a world full of crying children, screaming mothers and drinking fathers. The 'bastards' shout for release, their cries for salvation echoing, denied at every turn.

In the final stanza of the song, the reference to the voices in the head points to further turmoil, a breakdown of identity and the divisions that affect the individual. The blood on the skin that keeps crawling highlights the physical and emotional aspects of anxiety experienced by individuals. The repetition of the chorus calls for acknowledging the individual's ability to achieve great things while living in an unforgiving world.

lil observations of mine

PR took reference or inspiration from jesus's dying and resurrection ? I did read somewhere that rem was baptized catholic and did go to a catholic school, and he did direct this video.
1) we start with remington lugging this huge heavy cross. indication of a cross he has to bear (literal and metaphorical. he has the cross to bear of having anxiety/ mental health issues maybe?) and of course we know that jesus died on the cross too. he had to lug it with him before he was crucified.
2) around 2:13 we see remington being dragged. could be a nod again to jesus's crucifixion because in the Bible he was getting weaker and weaker and kept falling.
and then 2:24 : remington's beaten up as everyone watches him (much like jesus' death too. he was surrounded and watched on by his faithful apostles as he hung on the cross)
3) 3:07 we see remington again with angel wings. possibly him rising from the dead and overcoming all. being free of everything holding him down.

DISCLAIMER these are only observations and what I thought from the video. I'm not religious but I did go to Bible school when I was younger haha.
