In Over My Head
Pantera Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All alone this lonely night
I've been thinkin' about you
And now I'm on my own, just ain't right
Well, I don't know where I'm gonna go

I can't take it i can't make it alone, no

I'm in over my head
Thought it would be easy or not
But it's harder instead i'm in over my head
(Over my head) Oh, without you

I can't sleep, I need your touch
Lying here right beside me
I was in too deep, meant too much
Something free that reminds me

I can't take it i can't make it alone, no

I'm in over my head
Thought it would be easy or not
But it's harder instead i'm in over my head
(Over my head) Oh, without you

I keep thinkin' love is gonna find a way
I feel it comin', love will find a way

I'm in over my head
Thought it would be easy or not
But it's harder instead i'm in over my head
(Over my head) Oh, without you

I'm in over my head i'm in over my head
I'm in over my head i'm in over my head

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Pantera's song "In Over My Head" convey a sense of loneliness and longing for someone. The singer is feeling alone on a lonely night and can't stop thinking about this person. They acknowledge that being on their own doesn't feel right and they're uncertain about where they're going. They express their inability to handle the situation alone, highlighting their dependence on this person.

The chorus reinforces this feeling of being overwhelmed and out of their depth. The singer thought that being without this person would be easier, but it turns out to be harder than expected. They emphasize their struggle and how they feel lost without the other person.

The second verse amplifies their yearning for this person's touch and presence. They admit they got too deeply involved and that their connection meant a lot to them. There's a hint of desperation as they acknowledge that they can't make it alone and need the other person to be there with them.

Throughout the song, there's a glimmer of hope present. The singer believes that love will find a way and they continue to hold onto that belief. Despite being overwhelmed, they keep thinking that somehow love will prevail and bring them back together.

I'll say it again, Pantera's best stuff is the early albums. This track is golden proof how talented they were in the 80's. The fact they tried to hide this, it's a shame.

Love their early stuff
Beautifully put together the lyrics music
So unique
Unlike anything you will ever listen to
Only few know how good this sounds

This is a total 80's heavy metal gem.  I find it mind-boggling that Pantera in 1990 decided to hide their 80's material and make you believe they formed in 1990.

They didnt do that at all it was probably their management that did that thats how music companies works. And 1990 was the beginning of companies helping sculpt artists and how the public see them. Which is how grunge got big .
