So Far Away
Part Time Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You could lie, until the stars align,
Watch the tides unfold in your mind
You could run with fictitious smiles,
How long must we carry the cross?
So far away from it all.
With the clock still trying your pride, in the dawn chasing fireflies,
Oh just like they rise from the ground, begins the world anew and you're wearing the crown.

Overall Meaning

The first line of this verse seems to be referencing escapism, the idea that you can lie and pretend that everything is okay until things magically align and fall into place. The next line furthers that image, painting a picture of someone watching the tide of their thoughts and emotions without any real ability to control them. The third line, "You could run with fictitious smiles," speaks to the idea of putting up a facade of happiness and contentment, even when inside you're struggling. The question posed in this verse, "How long must we carry the cross?" can be interpreted in a few ways, but one possibility is that it's questioning how long we must continue to carry the weight of our struggles and problems.

Line by Line Meaning

You could lie, until the stars align
You have the option to deceive until everything falls into place perfectly.

Watch the tides unfold in your mind
You can observe the ebb and flow of your thoughts and emotions.

You could run with fictitious smiles
You could escape the truth and put on a facade of happiness.

How long must we carry the cross?
How long are we supposed to bear this burden of pain and suffering?

So far away from it all.
Feeling distant and removed from your problems and reality in general.

With the clock still trying your pride, in the dawn chasing fireflies,
While time continues to test your ego, you're chasing after fleeting moments of happiness like chasing fireflies in the morning light.

Oh just like they rise from the ground, begins the world anew and you're wearing the crown.
Just like the sun rises each morning, a new day begins where you can start fresh and feel like royalty.

<LYRICS>
You can lie
Until the stars align
Watch the tides
Unfold and unwind
You can run
With it 'til she smiles
How long
Must we carry the cross?

So far away from it all
So far away from it all

With the chord still trying to pry
In the dawn
Chasing fireflies
Just like they rise from the ground
Begins a world anew
And you're wearing the crown

So far away from it all
So far away from the tides
It doesn't matter at all
I can't find a ride

So far away from it all
So far away from the tides
It doesn't matter at all
So far away from it all

I am always amazed at how authentic Part Time sounds to the 80s/New Wave soundscape. Legit feels like it would fit in amongst those classics. 👌

@rahuljoban

Its 80s, but better

@jorgemoran7479

It's like a mix between The Whispers The Smith's and George Michaels lol now that would be a legendary collab honestly but this is the next best thing if not better

@thecitizenjoan

@@rahuljoban Definitely not better than stuff from the 80's don't get me wrong its amazing but bands Like The Smiths, Joy Division, Tears for Fears, New Order, Flock of Seagulls etc. they essentially influenced every indie band that exists in our current generation

@thecitizenjoan

I agree with you but at the same time it's way too crisp sounding if you listen to a lot of stuff from the 80's it's got a special resonance that appears hard to mimic and I believe most bands forgo it to produce a more modern HD quality sound to appeal to us younger folks which is nice and I enjoy too but even today's "lo-fi" for example Washed Out's first EP is obviously Hi-Definition in sound. I think Wild Nothing came closest to reproducing that classic 80's sound on "Midnight Song" or "Blue Dress" also My Jamey by Part Time is pretty close as well.

@@jorgemoran7479 I was thinking something like Gary Newman, Tears for Fears and George Michaels collaboration.
