Too Late
Pass The Joe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stayed in bed all mornin' just to pass the time.
There's somethin' wrong here, there can be no denyin'.
One of us is changin', or maybe we've just stopped tryin'.

And it's too late, baby now, it's too late,
Though we really did try to make it.
Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide,
And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no.

It used to be so easy, livin' here with you.
You were light and breezy, an' I knew just what to do.
Now you look so unhappy, and I feel like a fool.

And it's too late, baby now, it's too late,
Though we really did try to make it.
Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide,
And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no.

There'll be good times again for me and you,
But we just can't stay together; don't you feel it too?
Still I'm glad for what we had and how I once loved you.

And it's too late, baby now, it's too late,
Though we really did try to make it. (we can't make it)
Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide,
And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.

It's too late baby, it's too late now darling
It's too late.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Too Late" by Pass The Joe's describe a relationship that has run its course. The singer describes staying in bed all morning to pass the time, suggesting a lack of motivation and a sense of emptiness in the relationship. They acknowledge that something is wrong, either with one of them or with their relationship as a whole, but it seems like it's too late to fix it. The relationship has reached a breaking point, and even though they tried to make it work, something inside has died, and they can no longer fake their feelings.

The verses contrast the past and present of the relationship. The singer reflects on how easy it used to be to live with their partner; they were light and breezy, and the singer knew just what to do. However, now their partner looks unhappy, and the singer feels foolish for not being able to make things work. Despite acknowledging that there may be more good times in the future, the singer concludes that they just can't stay together.

"Too Late" is a poignant and emotional ballad that captures the sadness and regret that can come with the end of a relationship. Its simple yet powerful lyrics and melody make it a timeless classic.

this is great! Joe had rhythm and that's 90 % of it

My favourite JP album because, for the most part, it's so unlike his others. He throws in some really funky licks on the fast tracks & Miss Kaye is an added bonus.
I have every LP Joe ever did and even love the much slated ''Stones Jazz'' LP .
His solos on it are still superb on it inspite of the bad publicity it got.

Damn I love every track on this album, do they still sell this on CD?

klaiejah

Yep!! I just ordered one from Amazon.I bought the original production from Ms Kaye herself.

Joe Pass was good on guitar, but Carol Kaye, even better on bass.
