Rolling Stone
Passenger(패신저) Lyrics

Sometimes I feel I’m going nowhere
Sometimes I’m sure I never will
She said it’s ‘cause I’m always moving
I never notice ‘cause I never stand still

Sometimes I feel like I’m falling
Falling fast and falling free
She said "My darling you’re not falling,
Always looked like you were flying to me."

But I fear I’ve grown a rolling stone inside of me
She said "Oh don’t you know
The rolling stones stop at the sea,
And that’s where I’ll be."

Sometimes I’m sure I know no one
A thousand faces but no names
She said "My love you do know someone,
Oh and I know you back just the same."

"But I’m scared," I said, "what if this stone don’t slow down?"
"Oh just be aware," she said
"What goes up will come down
And when you do I’ll be around."

Oh when I’ve dragged this rolling stone across this land
I’ll make sure I leave this stone in her hand

For we both know too well, the rolling stones turn into sand
If they don’t find a place to stand

Overall Meaning

Passenger's Rolling Stone is a song about the uncertainties in life and the restlessness that ensues. The song speaks of times when the singer feels like they are going nowhere and other times when they are sure that they never will. The person they are talking to attributes this feeling to always being on the move and never standing still long enough to notice. The song then transitions into a discussion about falling and flying. The singer expresses their fear that they have grown a rolling stone inside of them, to which the other person responds by saying that the rolling stones stop at the sea, which is where they will be.

This message can be taken in different ways, but at its core, it speaks to the idea of finding a place to belong, somewhere to stand still. Everyone may feel like they are rolling stones at some point in their lives, constantly on the move, not really belonging anywhere, and searching for a sense of belonging. The other person in the song tells the singer not to worry too much about the rolling stone and to be aware that what goes up will come down. When the singer finally slows down and is ready to stop, the other person promises to be there for them.

Overall, the song Rolling Stone is a beautiful reminder that life is a journey with many uncertainties, but it is essential to find a place to stand still along the way.

Sometimes I feel I’m going nowhere
Sometimes I’m sure I never will
She said it’s ‘cos I’m always moving
I never notice ‘cos I never stand still

Sometimes I feel like I’m falling
Falling fast and falling free
She said my darling you’re not falling
Always looked like you were flying to me

But I fear I’ve grown a rolling stone inside of me
She said oh don’t you know
The rolling stones stop at the sea
And that’s where I’ll be

Sometimes I’m sure I know no one
A thousand faces but no names
She said my love you do know someone
Oh and i know you back just the same

But I’m scared I said, what if this stone don’t slow down
Oh just be aware she said
What goes up will come down
And when you do I’ll be around

Oh when I’ve dragged this rolling stone across this land
I’ll make sure I leave this stone in her hand
For we both know too well the rolling stones turn in to sand
If they don’t find a place to stand

This song is very nicely layered and has a nice catchy rhythm and chorus. However reading the lyrics as the song plays, it's a great short story of how this man has a solid foundation in his wife, who is by his side and always supportive and loving, no matter how unsure he is of himself and how many doubts he has.

Passenger, I have a question. I’ve heard most of your songs and I keep on listening to them but I’m still wondering - how could you gain so much wisdom and share it in such a beautiful way?

Zalfred Mfon

You read my mind right there mam'am

Allow me, I think it's mostly about keeping a diary with all your thoughts, and of course it helps to be that type of person. You might want to be like Passenger but perhaps your personalities don't match up. All you have to be in order to gain wisdom is yourself, and keeping important thoughts helps a lot with figuring that out.
Much love, and keep on listening to this music, it's great!!
