Roadkill
Path Of No Return Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Burn the highway down, on the top of your life.
Liquor and horsepower under your command, sadly fuckers like you can't pull off anything.
Glass one, glass two and the shot goes off.
You pump the brakes, but change the fate of an innocent man,
Twisting strictly in the air and hitting the ground.
Freeze the pulse, fade the light inside.
A pyromaniac dead end dream, where you become the flameboy in the scene.
Burn everything down.
Oh dear, what the fuck have you done?
Glass three, glass four, feeling alright.
A one-night stand until you realize what the fuck you've done.
A subterfuge so easy to blame, but your dead end dream will never end.
Let's just hope the moon keeps watching over you,
Even though it painted the flashlight of the sky that timeless night.
Guard you when your eyes are closed, as you are destined to lose.
When you realize some things never change, they'll never change.
A pyromaniac dead end dream, where you become the flameboy in the scene.

Burn everything down.
Oh dear, what the fuck have you done?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Roadkill" by Path Of No Return describe a story of reckless driving, alcohol abuse, and the aftermath of a fatal accident. The first verse talks about the thrill of driving fast with the power of liquor and horsepower. However, the second line addresses the harsh truth that reckless behavior won't lead to anything good. The third line describes the act of taking a shot, which ultimately leads to the fatal accident. The next lines explain how the driver tried to avoid the collision but ended up taking an innocent life with grave consequences. The lyrics shift in the chorus where the driver acknowledges his/her horrific act and wonders what led him/her to this point. But it's too late now, and from here on, they are destined to face the consequence of their actions.

The second verse talks about the aftermath of the accident, where the driver slowly realizes the gravity of the situation. Glass three and four signify that the driver has had more drinks to numb the guilt and pain, but they are destined to live their lives with this guilt. The lines "A subterfuge so easy to blame, but your dead end dream will never end," imply that it's easy to blame others, but the driver knows deep down that they are the ones responsible. The bridge of the song talks about how one could hope that someone is looking out for the driver, but it won't change the fact that they have caused drastic damage. In the end, the song emphasizes the idea of a "pyromaniac dead end dream," where the driver is like a flameboy burning everything down, including themselves and everything around them.
