Patrick was trained in classical voice at Vanier College's music department. About your promises your paper dreams
That wont scare me away I don't live to please
We′ve come this far
We can't go back now it's been too long
Freedom rings
Early it′s morning and I hear her song
Can you hear it
Do you hear it
I wake up each and every single night in my dreams
Delicious wine, fumes of terpentine and it seems
My disease, oh it controls me, consoles
Visions of victory
Your kingdom fails
With the words and the wishes of
Silence beams upon the boys and girls who live to see
We′ve come this far
We can't go back now it′s been too long
Freedom rings
Early it's morning and I hear her song
Can you hear it
Lord do you feel it
Stereotype of a misunderstood
Sticking to my plan like I know that I should
Doing good, oh doing good
Trying to start a fire with two pieces of wood
Break me down into itty bitty pieces
Used to believe I was nothing but feaces
So I hear the sound of a skinny little preacher
Respect your father and listen to your teacher
So he′s trying to teach us, trying to reach
Be it Allah, Jehovah or Jesus
Turn off your phone and turn off your light because
It's a battle of the demon type
And in my dreams these demons fight
Too many scared of the bark and not the bite
Is it appealing to be without reason
I hear the sound of your pig still sqeeling
So you be the princess, I′m the popper
In my three piece suit I'm still not proper
Your looking, searching for some direction
Round and round but you don't pay attention
I′m the stereotype of a misunderstood
Sticking to my plan like I know that I should
Doing good, oh doing good
The song "Visions" by Patrick Lehman talks about the struggles of living in a world where dreams and promises don't always come through. The artist expresses his indifference towards the hollow promises and paper dreams that others might have. He admits that he lives his life for himself and not to please others. The artist goes on to say that they have come this far, and there is no going back. The freedom that he experiences every morning assures him that he has chosen the right path.
The artist lyrically narrates his nightly dreams that give him a sense of control and power. The visions and dreams that he has represent the achievements he wants to attain. He hints that his dreams are his therapy and console him when he feels out of control. The song also talks about self-discovery, breaking free from stereotypes, and sticking to his plan. The artist tries to teach the listeners that they should respect themselves and follow their plans, be it Allah, Jehovah, or Jesus. The chorus encouragingly asks the listeners if they can hear or feel what the artist does. The freedom the artist describes is based not just on his autonomy but also the sense of accomplishment of his personal achievement.
