The Magic Position

It's Monday morning walk
Right past the fabulous mess we're in
It's gonna be a beautiful day
So do the bluebirds sing
As I take your hand
And you take my kiss
And I take the world
The places I've been
The songs that I have sung
The wonders I've seen
Now that the dreams are all coming true
Who is the one that leads me on through
It's you
Who puts me in the magic position, darling now
You put me in the magic position
To live, to learn, to love in the major key
And I know how you've hurt
And been dragged through the dirt
But c'mon get back up
It's the time to live
So give your love to me
I'm gonna keep it carefully
Deep in the treasure chest below my breast
'Cause out of all the people I've known
The places I've been
The songs that I have sung
The wonders I've seen
Now that the dreams are all coming true
Who is the one that leads me on through
It's you
Who puts me in the magic position, darling now
You put me in the magic position, darling now
Let me put you in the magic position, darling
'Cause I'm singing in the, the major key
Let me put you in the major key
The Magic Position is an upbeat and optimistic track by Patrick Wolf, and the lyrics perfectly reflect his happy and content mindset. The song begins with Wolf encouraging us to let people talk, to walk past whatever messes are in our path, and to take on the day with a positive attitude. He mentions taking his lover's hand and sharing a kiss, leading to the realization that out of all the people and experiences he's had, his significant other is the one leading him through to success. The chorus emphasizes the power of love to put us in a "magic position," to live, learn, and love in the major key, which Wolf uses metaphorically to represent a life of happiness and satisfaction.
As the song progresses, Wolf acknowledges the hurt and pain that sometimes comes with life, but encourages the listener to get back up and embrace life with open arms. He promises to keep his lover's love carefully in his heart, which is signified by the "treasure chest below my breast." The song ends on a hopeful note, with Wolf offering to put us in the "magic position," which is a position of ultimate happiness and fulfillment. The song overall is an ode to optimism, love, and the power of positive thinking to inspire us to overcome whatever hurdles we may face in life.

Do you think so? If I'm honest I think this is about 30 years too late in my opinion. Today's popular music is far from indie I don't even think this song, regardless of how good it is, would actually even make it to the charts. Very reminiscent of Howard Jones (New Song in paritcular) and that style of poppy 80s music.
