I Saw Her Standing There
Paul McCartney and His Band Lyrics

1-2-3-4!

Well, she was just 17,
You know what I mean,
And the way she looked was way beyond compare.
So how could I dance with another (ooh)
And I saw her standin' there.
Well she looked at me, and I, I could see
That before too long I'd fall in love with her.
She wouldn't dance with another (whoa)
And I saw her standin' there.

Well, my heart went "boom,"
When I crossed that room,
And I held her hand in mine

Whoa, we danced through the night,
And we held each other tight,
And before too long I fell in love with her.
Now I'll never dance with another (whoa)
Since I saw her standing there

Well, my heart went "boom,"
When I crossed that room,
And I held her hand in mine

Whoa, we danced through the night,
And we held each other tight,
And before too long I fell in love with her.

Now I'll never dance with another (whoa)
Since I saw her standing there

Overall Meaning

The song "I Saw Her Standing There" by Paul McCartney was written in 1963 and released on The Beatles' first album, "Please Please Me." The song features a rock and roll rhythm and is about a 17-year-old girl who McCartney saw standing across the room and instantly fell in love with.

The song starts with the familiar count-in "1-2-3-4!" and then McCartney sings "Well, she was just 17, you know what I mean..." and describes how beautiful the girl was and how he was unable to dance with anyone else because he was so drawn to her. The chorus repeats the line "And I saw her standing there" and the bridge describes how his heart started racing when he saw her and how they danced through the night and fell in love.

Some interpret the lyrics to suggest that the song was written from the perspective of a young man who was entranced with a girl he saw at a dance. Others believe that the song is autobiographical, and McCartney wrote it about his own experience of meeting his future wife, Linda Eastman.

The song was a big hit for The Beatles and helped launch their career. It was their first song to chart in the US, reaching #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has been covered by numerous artists over the years, including Elton John, Tiffany, and The Who.

Well, she was just seventeen
You know what I mean
And the way she looked
Was way beyond compare
So how could I dance with another
Ooh, when I saw her standing there?

Well, she looked at me
And I, I could see
That before too long
I'd fall in love with her
She wouldn't dance with another
Ooh, when I saw her standing there

Well, my heart went "boom"
When I crossed that room
And I held her hand in mine

Oh we danced through the night
And we held each other tight
And before too long
I fell in love with her
Now I'll never dance with another
Ooh, since I saw her standing there

Well, my heart went, "Boom"
When I crossed that room
And I held her hand in mine

Oh, we danced through the night
And we held each other tight
And before too long
I fell in love with her
Now I'll never dance with another
Oh, since I saw her standing there
Oh, since I saw her standing there
Yeah, well since I saw her standing there

Best version I’ve heard outside of the Beatles. Perfect mix of rhythm and lead guitar. That what makes this song, the 2 guitar sounds together. Band is also surprisingly tight too. When you’ve got Dave Gilmore on lead, Ian Paice on skins and Paul McCartney on bass and vocals, how could it not. Be. ❤

You know what I really love about this? Paul's voice is really pitchy on this. No auto tune! And David's solo isn't outrageously perfect, it's just kinda run of the mill. It goes to show you that these incredibly talented people are human after all.

Both are incredibly famous, and deservedly so, without question in my mind. But I love seeing what happens when you just throw them into a situation where they just kinda wing it.

It makes you realize how much skill they have to get from point "A" to point "B".

Paul and David should do more collabs.
