And I Love Her
Paul McCartney and His Group Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I give her all my love
That's all I do
And if you saw my love
You'd love her too
I love her

She gives me everything
And tenderly
The kiss my lover brings
She brings to me
And I love her

A love like ours
Could never die
As long as I
Have you near me

Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
Will never die
And I love her

Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine

Will never die
And I love her

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Paul McCartney and John Lennon's song And I Love Her revolve around the concept of unconditional love in a romantic relationship. The singer indicates that he gives all his love to his significant other and believes that if anyone else saw her, they would love her too. He reciprocates this love, stating that his lover brings him everything he needs and tenderly kisses him. The singer expresses confidence in the longevity of their love, stating that it could never die as long as they are together. The bright stars and dark sky demonstrate the contrast between their love and the world around them, implying the depth and commitment of their relationship.

The song's lyrics highlight the simplicity and sincerity of McCartney and Lennon’s songwriting at the time, with a clear emphasis on romantic themes. And I Love Her is notoriously known for its Latin-influenced acoustic guitar riff, which was played by George Harrison. It was one of the first Beatles songs to feature a guitar solo that was played with a nylon-stringed classical guitar rather than an electric or steel-stringed guitar. The gentle rhythm and soothing melody of the song fit perfectly with the group’s sharp harmonies.

Here is a very good 1999 E! True Hollywood Story,The Beatles Wives which has interviews with people close to them and explains how truly sexually wild The Beatles were, especially the early Beatles during their touring years with their totally fake cleaned up image wearing the suits and ties many of these were young women groupies, many who were just teen girls who were screaming in their concerts, and in addition to all of the affairs with women they had while John, George and Ringo were married to their first wives and Paul had his girlfriend British actress Jane Asher since April 1963 just 2 weeks after she turned 17 years old and Paul was 2 months away from turning 21 and who became his fiancé on Christmas day 1967.

Then in early July 1968 Jane came home unexpectedly early from touring with her theatre company and she found Paul in their bed with another woman and she ran out of the house and Paul’s life forever devastated.

On July 20,she announced on the popular BBC talk show Dee Time, that her engagement to Paul was off and they had been lovers for 5 years and they were engaged for 7 months by then.

Paul wrote a lot of great songs for and about Jane including And I Love Her and also wrote a lot of great songs about the arguments he had with her which were all his fault because he was sexist and selfish ,he wrongly kept pressuring Jane to give up her acting career that she loved and been doing since she appeared in her first film when she was only 5 years old.

All of this was totally left out of Ron Howard's totally sanitized inaccurate Eight Days A Week: The Touring Years documentary.

Wow. Absolutely agree that this is not only one of the Beatles' greatest songs, but one of the prettiest love songs of all time. BUT, I think this version lacks all of the original's integrity and feeling
