Forbidden Fruit
Paul Van Dyk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What you see you must not touch, what you see
What you want you cannot have, what you want
As Adam plucked the apple from the tree he never realised
A chemical and biological attraction, came to be

Consummate, your one desire
Physically connect as one
To copulate, will quench the fire
Burning fiercely in the soul and mind

What you want
You know you can't touch
What you see
You know you can't have
What you need
It's just what you feel
What you can't have
You want more and more

Once you've had a taste you're hypnotized
Forbidden fruit resist the call

An appetite, to self-indulge
Keep's growing stronger by the day
Your self-control, you're bound to lose
If you continue in this feverish way

Once you've had a taste you're hypnotized
Forbidden fruit resist the call
Don't be drawn into it's sweet desires
Forbidden fruit can change it's form

Everything is spiritual, everything has a spirit, everything is brought to
You by the creator
As Adam plucked the apple from the tree he never realised
A chemical and biological attraction, came to be

Why, why did man create all of these things?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Paul van Dyk's song Forbidden Fruit (Forbidden Future mix) capture the essence of the forbidden and the allure of what one cannot have. The song begins by highlighting the danger of wanting what one cannot have or touching what one must not touch, likening it to the apple that Adam plucked from the tree. The lyrics allude to the strong attraction that exists in the natural world, both chemical and biological, a force that comes to be when one desires something that is deemed forbidden.

The chorus of the song further emphasizes the struggle between what one wants and what one cannot have. The lyrics present the idea that once one has had a taste of the forbidden fruit, they become hypnotized and their appetite continues to grow stronger with time. It becomes clear that self-control is hard to maintain, and one is bound to lose it if they continue on this feverish path. The song ends with a cautionary reminder that the forbidden fruit can change its form, suggestively hinting at the various things that we may crave, which may ultimately lead to our downfall.

Overall, Paul van Dyk's lyrics in the Forbidden Fruit (Forbidden Future mix) convey the idea of temptation, desire and the struggle of resisting something that we know is not right for us. It speaks to the timeless human condition of wanting something that we cannot have, even when we know that it may cause us harm.

This was my favourite song in the 90’s. It always made me feel better which I desperately needed. Had it on a random tape which I recorded from the radio until that became salad. I didn’t know the name of the song and have been looking for it for over 20 years. The tune regularly just jumped my mind during all those years. Today by coincidence, I came across it. Tears of joy!

Even the strongest have their bad days, so do I, and this song is always reserved for those kind of days. It always helps me to get back on my feet, no matter how bad and depressing the situation is, it always reminds me, that there has to be a way to happiness

Koen Vanbelle

This music, cures :) It has something magic, like water drops on your face on a hot day :)

Beautifully put, PastLight. Couldn't agree more with both your comment and Koen Vanbelle's response. Curing indeed.

this was the song that really got me into trance. I was having a shitty day at work once, and played this on my break. Ended up taking about an hour just listening to this on repeat, crying my eyes out. It was the first time in my life that a piece of music actually affected me on an emotional level and was not just like, something to listen to.

I imagined some world, where whoever lived there had figured out how to fly away and discover new worlds.
These people had antennae things on their head, that when they shook/danced, the balls on the end of the antennae would bang together and somehow allow them to travel off into the universe.
But there was one being who only had one antennae, and could not travel. They saw all their family and friends and everyone else go away to some other place while they were left alone. Lonely, but now free to do whatever they please. A very bittersweet situation

Uno de los temas más especiales que he escuchado. Trasciende al tiempo y eso es sinónimo de amor. Esencia (amor) por encima de forma (dinero). Es por ello que llega a nuestros corazones y es imperecedero.
