Wall's first music industry exposure came as a street team member on the Northwest side of Houston, promoting southern artists such as T.I. and labels like Cash Money and The New No Limit. He is also an accomplished and proficient mixtape and party DJ, known for producing mixtapes in the now-well-known screwed & chopped style, which was invented by the late DJ Screw. While he has recently stated on record that South LE. (in Houston's southside) is his base of operations, it is not the neighborhood that Paul Wall is actually from. Paul Wall has claimed several such neighborhoods over his career, starting with De Soto in Acres Homes (his original home neighborhood), then switching to Gulf Bank (also in Acres Homes).
Paul Wall, Chamillionaire and Jon Higgins were originally affiliated with Swishahouse Records, but left for Paid in Full Records a short time later. After several mixtape and independent releases, including the critically acclaimed 'Get Ya Mind Correct', the two parted ways on bad terms. Chamillionaire continued to release independent records, while Paul Wall returned to the Swishahouse fold. This move allowed him to appear on Mike Jones' first commercially distributed single, "Still Tippin'", from his first major label album 'Who Is Mike Jones?'.
His major label debut, 'The People's Champ', has produced a lead single, "Sittin' Sidewayz", which is receiving national radio and television play. In August, 2005, rumors began to circulate that Paul Wall and Chamillionaire had settled any differences that remained between them, and are again on good terms with one another. Paul Wall also appeared with GLC on the song "Drive Slow" on Kanye West's second solo album, 'Late Registration'.
Paul Wall is the owner and proprietor of TV Jewelry in Houston. The store specializes in the production of grills, silver, gold, or platinum caps and diamond inlays (usually princess-cut diamonds). Grills have become a growing trend in rap culture and have even influenced its own song. "Grillz", by Nelly featuring Paul Wall along with other artists, where at one point Paul raps "Call me George Foreman 'cause I'm sellin' everybody grillz.)

back on the Swishahouse..back on the team
its goin' down its paul wall
I remember comin' up as just a youngster scrub
when people think you ain't gonna make it, they don't show much love
so I push and I shoved, and I stuggled and worked
GOD granded me wit blesses but pain came first
alot so called friends, that took big swangers and vouges
alot videos, and a whole lotta greed
The bill still gotta get paid and my heart still gotta plead
So I fled from the scene step my game up a notch
now I'm to where I started, gettin' money from Watts
GOD blessed me wit a second chance
Now T-farris be bookin me for shows from Idaho to France
When you got a hit song, people ride ya dick
But soon you #2 people tin to forget
Man had a healthy win, even though my compentition cheated
MPT came along and gave me the push I needed
Who you was ready to ride and I needed that
'cause most of my other homies seem to turn they back
but I ain't trippin I moved on to bigger things
and i'd bounced back N now I'm on the winnin' team
baby its the Swishahouse....baby its the Swishahouse....
baby its the Swishahouse
The lyrics of "Bounce" by Paul Wall depict his journey of overcoming difficulties and bouncing back. He acknowledges that he had to face a lot of struggles and worked extremely hard to achieve success. Paul emphasizes how he had to confront fake friends, fake partners, and greedy people in the music industry. Although he had initial setbacks and people did not believe in him, he persevered and made the most of the opportunities when he got them. He realized that when you have a hit song, people are quick to shower you with praise, but soon after, they tend to forget you when you're not on top anymore. With this realization, he feels grateful for T-farris, who gave him the push he needed to rise again. Paul Wall emphasizes that he had to move on from the negativity that had otherwise bogged him down, and now he is back again, stronger and victorious.
Through his song, Paul Wall wants to emphasize the importance of bouncing back from setbacks that seem insurmountable. Struggles and problems never last forever, and one can always arise from them. The music industry can be ruthless and tough, but not succumbing to it can lead to enduring success. Paul Wall's emphasis on moving forward and not dwelling on negativity is a life lesson everyone can learn from.
