And I′m sure he's good at holding your hands
But I promise he got nothing on me
Yeah I promise he got nothing on me
And he′s probably a really nice guy
And he's probably the one you admire
But I promise he got nothing on me
On me
I'm swimming laps in your eyes and they′re deeper than oceans
Cos I see you looking and I know that look in your eyes
And I guess that I′m not the best at suppressing emotions
Oh when I see you with him girl something inside of me dies
Cos he aint really bout it like that
I can see it in his eyes
There's a hundred million guys like that
Ooo-ooh
Says he loves you but he′s telling you lies
It's all coming from the right side like that
When your man eats paddle pop cyclones
And bites into the side of it like it′s a corn on the cob
Your man's weird
Your man hits the gym every day
So he can lift a really big weight
But I promise he got nothing on me
Yeah I promise he got nothing on me
And he probably has a really nice car
And doesn′t order Fanta when you go to the bar
But even with all that I promise you he got nothing on me
And Fanta is a really nice drink
I'm swimming laps in your eyes and they're deeper than oceans
Cos I see you looking and I know that look in your eyes
And I guess that I′m not the best at suppressing emotions
Oh when I see you with him girl something inside of me dies
Cos he aint really bout it like that
I can see it in his eyes
There′s a hundred million guys like that
Ooo-ooh
Says he loves you but he's telling you lies
It′s all coming from the right side like that
I saw you on the street with him later
Up on Nelson Street just holding his hand
I guess that he had something on me
Yeah I guess that he had something on me
And he's probably the one you adore
But I know that I′d be liking you more
But I guess that he had something on me
Yeah I guess that he had something on me
On me
The lyrics of Paul Williams's song "Nothing on Me" capture the singer's feelings of insecurity and jealousy towards a person they desire. The song begins by acknowledging that the person they desire may have someone else in their life, symbolized by the "little fibber in Wades" who is good at holding their hands. Despite this, the singer promises that this person has "nothing on me," implying that their connection with the desired person is stronger and more meaningful.
The singer admits that the other person might be a genuinely nice person and someone the desired person admires. However, they reinforce their belief that the other person still has "nothing on me." The lyrics describe the singer's intense emotions when they see the person they desire with someone else, as it causes something inside of them to "die."
The second verse uses playful imagery to highlight the perceived shortcomings of the person the desired person is involved with, such as eating a popsicle strangely or obsessively working out. These quirks are seen as insignificant compared to the singer's deeper connection with the desired person. The lyrics continue to assert that the other person is not as genuine or truthful, emphasizing that there are "a hundred million guys like that." In contrast, the singer expresses their feelings honestly and sincerely.
The chorus repeats the theme of the other person not being genuine, evidenced by them not being "really bout it like that." The lyrics suggest that the desired person may be misled by the other person's declarations of love, but the singer sees through the lies. The song concludes with the singer seeing the desired person with the other person on Nelson Street, admitting that the other person had some sort of hold over them. However, the singer still believes that they would like the desired person more than the other person does.
Overall, "Nothing on Me" conveys the singer's emotional turmoil, their belief in their deeper connection with the desired person, and their skepticism towards the other person's intentions and authenticity.
