E Depois Do Adeus
Paulo Carvalho Lyrics

O que faço aqui
Quem me abandonou
De quem me esqueci
Perguntei por mim
Quis saber de nós
Mas o mar
Não me traz
Em silêncio, amor
Em tristeza enfim
Eu te sinto, em flor
Eu te sofro, em mim
Eu te lembro, assim
Partir é morrer
Como amar
É ganhar
E perder
Tu vieste em flor
Eu te desfolhei
Tu te deste em amor
Eu nada te dei
Em teu corpo, amor
Eu adormeci
Morri nele
E ao morrer
Renasci
E depois do amor
E depois de nós
O dizer adeus
O ficarmos sós
Teu lugar a mais
Tua ausência em mim
Tua paz
Que perdi
Minha dor que aprendi
De novo vieste em flor
Te desfolhei
E depois do amor
E depois de nós
O adeus
O ficamos sós
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
The lyrics of Paulo Carvalho’s song “E Depois Do Adeus” express the singer’s search for self-identity and meaning following a painful experience of abandonment and loss. The opening lines “Quis saber quem sou/O que faço aqui” reveal the singer’s existential crisis and the desire to understand his place in the world. He also questions his relationships with others, wondering who left him and whom he has forgotten. Despite his yearning for connection, he feels isolated and disconnected, unable to hear the voice of the person he longs for.
The second verse delves deeper into the singer’s emotional state, as he expresses his love for someone who has left him. He describes the bittersweet sensation of remembering this person’s presence and feeling their absence, how it is both painful and beautiful at the same time. The metaphor of the flower, which represents the loved one and the singer himself, symbolizes the cycle of life and death, and how their love is a continuous process of winning and losing. The lines “Partir é morrer/Como amar é ganhar e perder” emphasize this idea, suggesting that every separation contains a little bit of death, but also the possibility of renewal and growth.
The last stanza repeats the chorus and adds a new layer of complexity to the narrative. The singer acknowledges the finality of the separation and the inevitability of being alone. He mourns the loss of the loved one and the peace that came with them, as well as the pain that resurfaces after they reappear once again like a flower. The repetition of the melody and the la-la-la refrain at the end create a sense of circularity and closure, suggesting that the singer has come full circle in his journey of self-discovery and healing.

Quis saber quem sou
I wanted to know who I am
O que faço aqui
What am I doing here
Quem me abandonou
Who abandoned me
De quem me esqueci
Who I forgot
Perguntei por mim
I asked about myself
Quis saber de nós
I wanted to know about us
Mas o mar
But the sea
Não me traz
Does not bring me
Tua voz
Your voice
Em silêncio, amor
In silence, my love
Em tristeza enfim
In sadness, finally
Eu te sinto, em flor
I feel you, in bloom
Eu te sofro, em mim
I suffer you, within me
Eu te lembro, assim
I remember you, like this
Partir é morrer
To leave is to die
Como amar
Like love
É ganhar
Is to win
E perder
And lose
Tu vieste em flor
You came in bloom
Eu te desfolhei
I undressed you
Tu te deste em amor
You gave yourself in love
Eu nada te dei
I gave you nothing
Em teu corpo, amor
In your body, my love
Eu adormeci
I fell asleep
Morri nele
I died in it
E ao morrer
And when I died
Renasci
I was reborn
E depois do amor
And after love
E depois de nós
And after us
O dizer adeus
Saying goodbye
O ficarmos sós
We are left alone
Teu lugar a mais
Your vacant place
Tua ausência em mim
Your absence within me
Tua paz
Your peace
Que perdi
That I lost
Minha dor que aprendi
The pain that I learned
De novo vieste em flor
You came again in bloom

*****, don't state idiotic things:
1- Our crisis it's EU's fault.
2 "their money" does not exist simply because Portugal also pays for the EU's budget and pay's high interest rates for every loan that comes here.
3- Portugal has an ANUAL budget of 100 bi and in 30 years we received from EU 81bi in LOANS. How exactly do we live of their money?
4- Who the hell made us spend 70 bi rescuing banks?
5- Who the hell forced an IMF intervention in Portugal in 2011 after we said we didn't want it, just to protect Spain?
EU, is the worst thing that ever happend to Portugal since the creation of the UN.
And don't include yourself as portuguese because you clearly are not.
