Chandelier
Paulo Cuevas Lyrics

Party girls don′t get hurt
Can't feel anything, when will I learn
I push it down, push it down

I′m the one "for a good time call"
Phone's blowin' up, they′re ringin′ my doorbell
I feel the love, feel the love
1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink
Throw 'em back, ′til I lose count

I'm gonna swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier
I′m gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist
Like it doesn′t exist
I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night
Feel my tears as they dry
I'm gonna swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier

But I′m holding on for dear life
Won′t look down won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light
′Cos I'm just holding on for tonight
Help me, I′m holding on for dear life
Won't look down won′t open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light
'Cos I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight

Sun is up, I′m a mess
Gotta get out now, gotta run from this
Here comes the shame, here comes the shame

1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink
Throw ′em back, 'til I lose count

I′m gonna swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier
I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn′t exist
Like it doesn't exist
I′m gonna fly like a bird through the night
Feel my tears as they dry
I'm gonna swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier

But I'm holding on for dear life
Won′t look down won′t open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light
'Cos I′m just holding on for tonight
Help me, I'm holding on for dear life
Won′t look down won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light
′Cos I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight, on for tonight

'Cos I′m just holding on for tonight
Oh I′m just holding on for tonight
On for tonight, on for tonight

'Cos I′m just holding on for tonight
'Cos I′m just holding on for tonight

Oh I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight, on for tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Paulo Cuevas's song Chandelier are about a party girl who is trying to escape her reality through drinking and partying. Despite feeling the love and enjoying the moment, she has to push down her emotions and numb herself to not get hurt as party girls don't get hurt. The party girl also mentions that she lives like tomorrow doesn't exist, and she swings from the chandelier, symbolizing her carefree and wild lifestyle that could come crashing down at any moment. She is holding on for dear life, unable to look down or open her eyes as she tries to survive the night by keeping her glass full until morning light. Despite everything, she is just holding on for tonight.

The party girl's struggles with addiction and emotional numbness are expressed through the lyrics of Chandelier. She is trying to forget her pain and live in the moment, but she is also aware of the consequences of her actions. Although she is enjoying herself and feels the love from those around her, the shame and guilt that come afterward remind her of the reality she is trying to escape. The song portrays the fragile and complex nature of the party girl's character, whose desperate pursuit of happiness through the escapism of partying makes her unable to face her emotions and confront her problems in a healthy way.
