Merrill Nisker (born 1966 in Toronto), better known as Peaches, is an electroclash artist whose songs are mainly focused on sexuality. She lives and works in Berlin, Germany. She plays almost all the instruments for her songs, programs her own electronic beats, and produces her records.
Peaches' music is preoccupied with gender identity. Her lyrics and live shows self-consciously blur the distinction between male and female: she appears on the cover of her second album Fatherfucker with a full beard; when asked if she had chosen the title for shock value, she commented:
"Why do we call our mothers motherfuckers? Why do we stub our toe and say "Aww motherfucker!"? What is motherfucker? ...We use it in our everyday language and it's such an insanely intense word. I'm not one to shy away from these obscene terms that we actually have in our mainstream. Motherfucker is a very mainstream word. But if we're going to use motherfucker, why don't we use fatherfucker? I'm just trying to be even."
She refutes accusations of 'penis envy', preferring the term 'hermaphrodite envy', since "there is so much male and female in us all". Nevertheless, she does not shy away from identifying herself as a sexual being, although she rejects the sanitised portrayal of women in popular music.
Although she does not hold a teaching degree, she taught at private schools before her career in music.
Fancypants Hoodlum released in 1995 was released under her birth name Merrill Nisker
Members of her band are known as The Herms - JD Samson, Radio Sloan, Samantha Maloney.
Her songs have been featured in movies such as Mean Girls, My Little Eye, Lost in Translation, Waiting, and Jackass: Number Two. Her music has also been featured on Showtime's The L Word television series. Peaches performed guest vocals on P!nk's album Try This, on the song "Oh My God". Her lyrics are discussed as part of the Queer Studies course curriculum at the University Of Toronto, and she has been invited to lecture at the Contemporary Music Academy in Berlin. Her most notorious song, "Fuck The Pain Away", is also the name of an Electro night in Brighton.

Going out, you haven't seen the worst of me yet
They call me a threat, say I aim to test
I call it as I see it, fuck that cheap rhetoric
Ooh ah, ooh ah, go back to bed
Ooh ah, ooh, you're sick in the head
Ooh ah, ooh ah, go back to bed
Every bead of sweat is gonna rip base
Every deal is dirty get a grip mace
Put in your place, soot in your face
Piling up the power, pick it up, pick the pace
Ooh ah, ooh ah, go back to bed
Ooh ah, ooh, you're sick in the head
Ooh ah, ooh ah, go back to bed
Ooh ah, ooh, you're sick in the head
Hey-hey-hey-hey
Hey-hey-hey-hey
Hey-hey-hey-hey
Hey-hey-hey-hey
Rolling up on attitude and puffin' my chest
Going out, you haven't seen the worst of me yet
They call me a threat, say I aim to test
I call it as I see it, fuck that cheap rhetoric
Ooh ah, ooh ah, go back to bed
Ooh ah, ooh, you're sick in the head
Ooh ah, ooh ah, go back to bed
Ooh ah, ooh, you're sick in the head
Aaaaaah!
I could never understand the trust in politicians, boring
They say lead but mission always lead itself to shitty whoring
You could go into performing, better than the lives destroying
I beg you to think, imploring, 'cause I know your head is sick
I could never understand the trust in politicians, boring
They say lead but mission always lead itself to shitty whoring
You could go into performing, better than the lives destroying
I beg you to think, imploring, 'cause I know your head is sick
(Hey-hey-hey-hey) I know your head is sick

The opening verse of Peaches's song Sick in the Head sets the confident and assertive tone of the song, with the persona of the singer declaring that they are coming with attitude, and that they have yet to show the worst of themselves. They reject the idea that they are a threat or that they are trying to test anyone and claim to simply call things as they see them, without relying on slogans or platitudes. The chorus reflects this by using the refrain "ooh ah, ooh ah, go back to bed / ooh ah, ooh, you're sick in the head," which can be taken as a direct challenge to those who are not willing to face reality or confront their own negative thoughts about themselves or others.
The second verse turns towards a critique of the current political climate, with Peaches expressing a distrust in politicians who claim to lead but only engage in corrupt activities. She suggests that people should consider other paths, such as performing, rather than engaging in destructive behaviors. The chorus reinforces this call for personal responsibility and rejecting negative thoughts. The final verse returns to the earlier themes of the song, with Peaches urging the listener to be proactive and work hard to achieve their goals, rather than relying on shady deals or other dishonest means.
