Oceans

Hold on to the thread
The currents will shift
Glide me towards you
know something's left
And we're all allowed
To dream of the next
Oh,
oh the next, time we touch

Uh huh, uh huh
Uh huh, uh huh

You don't have to stray
The oceans away
Waves roll in my thoughts
Hold tight the ring
The sea will rise
Please stand by the shore
Oh, oh, oh, I will be
I will be there once more

Uh huh, uh huh
Uh huh, uh huh
Uh huh, uh huh
Uh huh, uh huh

Uh huh, uh huh
Uh huh, uh huh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Pearl Jam's song Oceans can be interpreted in various ways, but the central theme seems to be the importance of holding on to hope in the midst of uncertainty. The opening lines, "Hold on to the thread/The currents will shift/Glide me towards you/Know something's left" can be interpreted as an expression of hope that despite the challenges and difficulties one may encounter in life, there is always a chance for things to get better. The reference to "currents" and "gliding" suggests a sense of being carried along a path, rather than actively directing one's course. This may suggest an acceptance of the inevitability of change and a willingness to trust in the unknown.

The last lines of the song, "Please stand by the shore/Oh, oh, oh, I will be/I will be there once more" reinforce this idea of hope and the potential for reunion or reconciliation. The repetition of "uh huh" throughout the song helps to emphasize the sense of connection and assurance that comes with knowing that someone is still there, even when things are uncertain.

Overall, "Oceans" can be seen as a song about perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity. It encourages listeners to hold on to the things that matter most in life, even when everything else seems to be shifting or uncertain.

Ament’s fretless bass gave Ten such a distinct sound. Amazing album.

I did my best to emulate some kind of a fretless sound. It's of course very difficult. Added some vibrato in my execution and also in the mix. Used some pedal emulators and plugins to add some light chorus and digital vibrato. Used also a lighter touch and a rounder pluck. This is of course a great song and the melodic effect of the instrument to construct it is noted. I would have loved to have a fretless to make it more similar to the original.

About harmony if think most of the complexity around it is incidental and based on the physical quality of the guitar. That of course does not make it less interesting to notice and analize. I would say this applies around D Mixolydian with some alterations, chromatism, but the resolution by whole tone into D is there. If you have some ideas please let me know so we can discuss. Remember to attend to streams on fridays for more info on everything. Thanks for watching

Skylar Cook because he, like many of us either can't afford one, or won't buy one because there isn't enough bass lines for it to warrant buying one lol.

Trouble in421 They are one of my favorite bands. They are also from my hometown of Riverside, CA. So they will always have a special place in my heart. I also got to meet the whole band when they played a benefit concert at RCC.

Can't believe this has finally come up on youtube! I think it's a pretty awesome sound you've achieved without using a fretless, I've just started to play this as well so the timing has been immaculate! Thank you very much for the cover @coversolutions
