Pentatonix formed in 2011 and came to prominence the same year by winning the third season of "The Sing-Off" on NBC, their victory earning them $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony. Their debut EP "PTX, Volume 1" was released in 2012, followed by "PTXmas" the same year, with their third release "PTX, Vol. II", debuting at number 1 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart in 2013. 2014 saw the release of "PTX, Vol. III", and their two first full-length albums "PTX, Vols. 1 & 2" (a compilation of Vol. 1 and Vol. II) and "That's Christmas to Me". Their second holiday release, That's Christmas to Me, with the album certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), platinum on December 24, 2014, and double platinum on February 11, 2016, becoming the highest-charting holiday album by a group since 1962, and the fourth-best-selling album in the United States in 2014. The following year, Pentatonix released their album, their first consisting mostly of original material, which debuted atop the US Billboard 200 chart for the first time in their career, followed by a third Christmas album, A Pentatonix Christmas, in 2016, and a new EP, PTX, Vol. IV – Classics, the following year. In May 2017, Kaplan announced that he would leave Pentatonix due to his inability to keep up with the touring demands of the group; he left after the completion of the tour in September, and was replaced by Matt Sallee the following month.
Pentatonix has won three Grammy Awards: they were the first a cappella act to win Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, doing so in 2015 and 2016, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance in 2017.
Pentatonix started their popular YouTube channel back in 2012 to promote themselves after the Sing-Off (Season 3, 2011) when they were dropped by their record label, according to a recent November 2014 interview. They also made effective use of social media to interact with their fan base. They have eclipsed almost 15 million subscribers and more than 2.7 billion cumulative views. Their music video for "Daft Punk" recently surpassed 273 million views.

River
Pentatonix Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Cutting down trees
Putting up reindeer
Singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
It don't snow here
Stays pretty green
Then I'm gonna quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I made my baby cry, oh, oh
It's coming on Christmas
Cutting down trees
Putting up reindeer
Singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
The lyrics to "To The River" by Pentatonix convey a sense of longing and a desire for escape during the holiday season. The song begins by describing the typical activities associated with Christmas, such as cutting down trees, putting up reindeer, and singing songs of joy and peace. However, amidst the festive atmosphere, there is a feeling of discontent. The singer wishes they had a river to skate away on, symbolizing their longing for a different kind of holiday experience, one that is not bound by societal expectations.
The second verse continues this theme, highlighting the absence of snow and the green surroundings in their current location. The singer expresses their ambition to make a lot of money and then leave behind the pressures and chaos of their current life. The wish for a river to skate away on is repeated, emphasizing the desire for a fresh start or a way to escape the emotional turbulence they are experiencing.
The chorus further emphasizes the longing for freedom and the power to overcome difficulties. The desire for a river long enough to teach their feet to fly represents the yearning for liberation and the ability to transcend their current circumstances. The lyrics also suggest that the singer's actions have caused their loved one to cry, indicating regret and the pain that their choices have caused.
Overall, "To The River" captures the bittersweet emotions that can arise during the holiday season, where the pressure to conform to tradition can clash with personal desires for freedom and self-discovery.

Don't say you're sorry
You'll never have to be alone
I'm in on your actions
There's no hope for you to atone
You'll never know this pain inside, no lie
This heart will only heal in time
The clock is ticking the fear away
So take me to the river and run, I'm diving in
We'll see where it begins,
Your loss when I fall in
So lead me to the brim where my breaking point is thin
You try to pull me in,
Like fire in the wind
But I,
I'm deep in shallow waters
I feel it pouring over
You're lost in the karma
This fever's rushing hot and cold
You're ripe for the harvest
Your only reach is what you sow
You'll never know this pain inside, no lie.
This heart will only heal in time
The clock is ticking the fear away
So take me to the river and run, I'm diving in
We'll see where it begins,
Your loss when I fall in
So lead me to the brim where my breaking point is thin
You try to pull me in,
Like fire in the wind
But I,
I'm deep in shallow waters
I feel it pouring over
Wade in the water
Oh-oh-oh oh oh-oh oh
Oh-oh-oh oh oh-oh oh
Wade in the water
Oh-oh-oh oh oh-oh oh
Oh-oh-oh oh oh-oh oh
Wade in the water,
For your sons and daughters
Oh I say wade in the water, yeah
Clock is ticking I'm out of breath
Take me to the river and run, I'm diving in
We'll see where it begins,
Your loss when I fall in
So lead me to the brim where my breaking point is thin
You try to pull me in,
Like fire in the wind
But I,
I'm deep in shallow waters
I feel it pouring over
But I,
I'm deep in shallow waters
I feel it pouring over
