Thrift Shop
Pentatonix & Lindsey Stirling Lyrics

What, what, what what, what, what, what, yo
What, what, what, what, what, what, hey!

I'm gonna pop some tags
Only got twenty dollars in my pocket
I'm, I'm, I'm huntin'
Looking for a come-up
This is freaking awesome

Yo, walk into the club like, what up?
I got a big duck
I'm so pumped about some kicks
From the thrift shop
Ice on the fringe, yo it's so dang frosty
The people like, "Yo! Where'd
You get that shirt, scotty?"

Rolling in, rolling deep
Headed to the mezzanine
Dressed in all pink 'cept my gator shoes
Those are green draped in a leopard mink
Girls standing next to me
Probably should've washed this 'cuz it
Smells like Mitch Grassi's feet
Ooh, what? Diss!
But hey it was ninety-nine cents!

Now you're copping it, washing it
'Bout to go and get some compliments
Passing up on those moccasins someone
Else has been walking in
But me grungy, forget it, man
I ain't stunting and flossing
I'm saving my money and I'm
Super happy that's a bargain!

Imma take your grandpa's style
Imma take your grandpa's style
No, for real, ask your grandpa
Can I have his hand me downs?
Velour jump suit and some house slippers
Bookie brown leather jacket that
I found digging

They had a broken keyboard
I bought a broken keyboard
I bought a fleece blanket, and
Then I bought a kneeboard, yeah
Hello, hello, my ace man, my Miller
John Wayne ain't got nothing
On my fringe game, oh no
I could take some pro-wings
Make them cool and sell those
The sneaker heads will be like
"Aw, you got them velcro!"

I'm gonna pop some tags
Only got twenty dollars in my pocket
I'm, I'm, I'm hunting
Looking for a come-up
This is freaking awesome

Yo, what you know about rocking
A wolf on your noggin?
What you knowing about wearing
A fur fox skin? I'm digging, I'm digging
I'm searching right through that luggage, yo
One man's trash
That's another man's come-up

Your Granny, your Auntie, your Momma
Your Mammy
I'll take those flannel zebra jammies
Second hand, I rock that motha
That built in onsie with the
Socks on that motha
I hit the party and they stop with that motha
P-peep game
Come take a look through my telescope
Tryna get girls from my brand
No, no, no you won't (No, no, Mama)
No, no, no you won't (There is no way)
No, no, no you won't

I wear your grandad's clothes
I look incredible i'm in this big ol' coat
From that thrift shop down the road
(Popping tags)

I'm gonna pop some tags
Only got twenty dollars in my pocket
I'm, I'm, I'm hunting
Looking for a come-up
This is freaking awesome

Everybody! I'm gonna pop some tags
Only got twenty dollars in my pocket
I'm, I'm, I'm huntin'

Looking for a come-up
This is freaking awesome

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Thrift Shop" by Pentatonix and Lindsey Stirling revolve around the theme of finding joy and satisfaction in thrift shopping, as well as challenging societal norms surrounding fashion and consumerism.

The opening lines, "I'm gonna pop some tags, Only got twenty dollars in my pocket," set the stage for the singer's excitement about exploring a thrift shop with a limited budget. They are on the hunt for unique and affordable pieces, symbolizing their desire for a "come-up," or a lucky find that will make them stand out from the crowd. This sense of enthusiasm is further emphasized with the line, "This is freaking awesome."

As the song progresses, the lyrics describe the singer's confidence and swagger as they enter a club. The references to their outfit, such as the "big duck" and "kicks from the thrift shop," highlight their unconventional style. Despite wearing a mismatched ensemble with unconventional accessories like gator shoes and a leopard mink, they proudly display their finds while embracing their individuality.

The lyrics also touch upon the value of thrift shopping from a financial perspective. The singer decides to save money instead of trying to impress others with expensive clothes. They joyfully declare that their purchases were only "ninety-nine cents," challenging the notion that good style has to come at a high cost. This reflects a sense of satisfaction in being able to find bargains and be resourceful with their money.

Additionally, the song playfully references nostalgia and the idea of repurposing and recycling clothing. The lyrics about taking one's grandpa's style and wearing second-hand items speak to the cultural trend of vintage and retro fashion. By embracing these older styles, the singer not only showcases their unique taste but also challenges the notion that clothing has to be brand-new to be fashionable.

Overall, "Thrift Shop" celebrates the joy of thrift shopping, the satisfaction of finding hidden gems, and the empowerment that comes from embracing one's individuality and defying societal expectations of fashion and consumerism.

It's because Lindsey Stirling is raw talent and there is little true talent in music these days. See her live if you haven't she's even better live.

Lindsay is amazing.
This clean version is pretty great.

But mostly, violin is one of the most versatile instruments I've heard. This song was very improved with the addition of violin! :D

@reid745a

Way to prove that you don't need profanity to have a good song! Nice job guys!

@NovaStella_

There's a saxophonist in our band that knows how to play this song, so when we were having our last concert of the year (A very formal concert that celebrates EVERYTHING that everyone did that year), the band was warming up at the beginning of the concert. All of a sudden, from the sax section came this song.

It was amazing.

@mosescarter1344

That is cool.
