Sitting on the Curb

I remember those days when I had big money
never checked the price it just all came to me
but now a days I'll be pinchin every penny
5 star dining at my local denny's
I've been sitting on the curb in you neighborhood
looking at the streelight thinking how I could
just get one response, maybe a glance
but the system has it's rules about the second chance

living by the tracks in the Barrio
keeps my welfare state from the don risto
don't be amazed when you see me out of line
I've got my baseball bat to take care of joe grind
thought I was one, baby I'm a fool
because I've been wrong for years
;chorus;
ain't it funny how everybody knows but you
couldn't imagine what else you could do

please spare me your regards baby
time is long when your waiting pateintly
that bed used to be so good
now my pillow is a curb in your neighborhood
thought I was one, but baby I'm a fool
because I've been wrong for years

Ain't it funny......................

Overall Meaning

The song "Sitting on the Curb" by Pepper is a reflection on the struggles of life, especially when one has fallen from their former position of wealth and influence. The lyrics reference a past life of abundance in which the singer never concerned themselves with the cost of things, but now they are forced to count their pennies and dine at Denny's instead of five-star restaurants. They find themselves sitting on the curb in a neighborhood, feeling out of place and forgotten. The singer is longing for any sort of acknowledgment, even just a glance from someone passing by. The rules of society and the class system seem to be working against them and they are struggling to accept the reality of their current situation.

The second verse of the song takes a dark turn as the singer reveals that they are living in the Barrio, relying on welfare to survive, and resorting to violence with a baseball bat to deal with their frustrations. The line "thought I was one, but baby I'm a fool because I've been wrong for years" speaks to a moment of clarity and self-awareness. The singer has realized that their previous way of life was unsustainable and unrealistic, and they now see the world in a new light.

Overall, "Sitting on the Curb" is a powerful commentary on the struggle to make ends meet in a society that values wealth and success. It highlights the way in which people can fall from grace and are often judged based on their economic status, rather than their inherent worth as human beings.

Really stoked to be taking my son Liam to see them at the Republik December 1! Liam is 13, and super into creating music on Abelton and Logic- and seeing live music! Last time I saw Pepper was in Kona around 2002- first ever Kona Town Music Fest with Mad Caddies, Natural Vibes- etc. Much love to Kainoa and Uncle Ferp, Lehua and all of the people I miss so much from Kona! I miss Kona so much! Aloha- Toby! :)

The reason they sound similar is because they are pretty much almost the exact same kind of music. On top of that, Bradley Nowell signed Pepper, along with bands like Slightly Stoopid, to his record label, and probably liked the sound they had because it was the kind of music he liked to play. Both of them are awesome bands.

Cesar M.

Bradley died in 1996 so he didn't sign either of those bands to his record label lol nice try though

Back when life was easy. Rock on pepper

Wootdangle

Sublime formed a unique sound together, as a band. They were influenced by many different genres of music and many different life experiences that made them fun, unique and interesting to listen to. Their sound was uplifting and different and this was what lead to their success; there was simply no one else like them. Pepper have copied everything about their sound and are entirely unoriginal in this respect. They're capitalizing on a success that they don't deserve.

Nothing wrong with sounding like Sublime. They sound sikmilar. It's a genre, that's supposed to happen. Thing is, they also have a style their own, and Sublime a style their own. And true fan of either knows the difference.

i agree 100%...enjoy the music!

BreakingBatman

It's all about the A and D chords. So many Pepper, Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, and Long Beach songs are upstroke A and D with a G chorus. Still grooves.
